Last week, Andrea was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma with tumors on her brain, liver, and in her back along her ribs. She is 23 weeks pregnant with a baby boy named Tristan.

Andrea has been hospitalized since last Wednesday due to the intense pain she is experiencing. Currently, it is unclear how long she will remain there, as the goal is to ensure that she will be able to return home with her pain under control and well-managed.

She also began treatment for her melanoma on Friday and will begin targeted radiation treatments for the tumors on her brain this week. At this time, the doctors remain unsure of how the treatments will effect Tristan. In order to give both Andrea and Tristan the best chance at success, the goal is to deliver Tristan at 26 weeks. After Tristan is born, Andrea will begin the full course of her treatments. Tristan will remain in the NICU, facing his own set of challenges, until he is ready to come home.

The following weeks and months will be full of trials for both mother and son. Please join us to support Andrea and Tristan as they each fight for their health during this time.

8/26/16: Andrea is out of surgery and into recovery. The doctors were able to remove the tumor from her liver; it was slightly larger than a softball in size. She has to have a nasogastric tube (tube that runs from her nose to her stomach) to help remove bile from her stomach until tomorrow. Until then, she cannot have anything to eat or drink even though she woke up hungry after her surgery. She is also waiting on a blood transfusion and remains very tired at this time.

Please keep sending out those positive vibes and prayers for her swift recovery from surgery. Please also pray for Phil, her mom, and the rest of her family, as everyone has had a very long day and could use some positive energy as well. Thank you all for your support.

More updates will be provided as they are available.

8/22/16: Hello everyone! Today Andrea met with a surgeon who believes the tumor on her liver can be successfully removed. They have scheduled surgery for this Friday. Recovery from this type of surgery is a moderately lengthy process. She will need to remain in the hospital for a week following the surgery and then have another month of recovery at home. At this time, the plans remain in place for her to continue the courses of IV medications as well.

Please send up some prayers and positive vibes for a safe and successful surgery on Friday! Thank you all for all of your kind words, prayers, and messages over the last several days. They are appreciated as always! We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Hello everyone! We apologize for the long time between updates; Andrea and Tristan have been getting used to being home alone together these last few months.

Unfortunately, today's update is not all happy news. This week the doctors found another large tumor on the base of Andrea's liver. The good news is that at this time no other tumors have been identified and all of her previous tumors are still gone. The bad news is that due to the location of the tumor, the treatment options are limited.

For now, the plan is for Andrea to receive a combination of two IV chemotherapy agents every three weeks for a total of four treatments and then after that she will go down to one of the drugs for additional weeks. While she receives the IV medications, the doctors are looking into potential radiation and surgical options; however, there may not be many options on that front. The medications she is being put on can have some quite hefty side effects in less than half of patients, so we are hoping that she will not have to experience many of those. She received her first treatment this afternoon and developed severe chills and fatigue after getting home, so we will have to wait and see what the doctors have to say about that tomorrow.

At this time, we are asking that each of you send up prayers and positive vibes for successful treatment and minimal side effects from the medications. Please continue to share her story as you have all done in the past. The more prayers and positive thoughts, the better! We truly appreciate the support that each and everyone of you have shown this last year for Andrea, Phil, and Tristan, and we appreciate your support as we head into this next phase of their journey.

For those of you who don't follow our Facebook page, here is our latest update.

Brief update on Tristan and I. Tristan is doing fantastic. He is 9 months old now (pics to come) and getting more adventurous by the day. He weighs 17.5 lbs and is 26.25 inches tall. We found out recently that his eyes have developed very nicely and we don't have to go to the eye doctor again until he's about 3 years old. He also saw an audiologist and we discovered he had moderate hearing loss in his left ear and they are recommending we move forward with a hearing aid. Good news is he has perfect hearing in his right ear.
Obviously we would have loved to have found perfect hearing in his left ear as well but for a baby born at 24 weeks he truly is a miracle baby with very few developmental issues. He's a beautiful, happy, and most importantly, healthy baby boy!!

As for me...things continue to improve! My tumors are still shrinking and the doc says he can hardly see 2 out of the 3 remaining tumors at this point. I'm continuing on my meds and receive monthly echos but they've pushed my scans out to every 3 months instead of 6 weeks!! I also got my hair cut for the first time since I lost it last fall which was a very exciting day for me!

Overall things could not be going any better! We are embracing this new chapter in our lives and living life to the fullest! Not a day goes by that I don't thank God for all he has done for us and each and every one of you for all of your prayers! We are so blessed.
