Join Amy Tortorella's Fight
It started with slight back pain and she didn't think too much of it. But as the pain substantially increased over the next couple weeks, Amy went to see a back specialist as she had a fast approaching trip to Morocco as the leader of a yoga retreat. Just 2 days later she was admitted to Duke University Hospital with a diagnosis of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Described by her yoga family as "a strong presence embodying light, love and awakening. Amy is a goddess whose light embraces all who are fortunate to cross her path. " Her yoga classes in Raleigh create a safe space to practice many principles of yoga extending far beyond the physical asana.
Amy is married to my brother, her college sweetheart, Ian. They met in 1996 at Myrtle Beach, SC while Ian was finishing his degree at Coastal Carolina University and Amy was enrolled in ECU. Instead of migrating back north to Boston after graduation, Ian moved to Greenville, NC to be closer to Amy. They settled in Raleigh, NC and share a love for friends, family, yoga, hockey, beer and of course their fur babies.
Amy and Ian's family, friends, hockey and yoga family's outreach and support has been overwhelming and they are so appreciative. All of the support is giving them the strength they need to fight this together. Amy is fortunate to have some of the best cancer facilities in the country in their backyard. She is starting aggressive chemotherapy at UNC/REX this week. Together, Amy and Ian continue to fight and explore treatment options. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is exorbitant and financially challenging especially on one income. So many have expressed a desire to support Amy and Ian so I wanted to set up this page and hopefully alleviate some of the financial burdens of the mounting medical bills.
