Amy’s Cancer Care Funding
Amy L. Schnitzler, daughter of our beloved Rochester Gymnastic s Academy JO Men’s Coach Gary Schnitzler, was born in Rochester, NY twenty seven years ago. Throughout the years she has brought joy to many with her beautiful operatic voice. She studied vocal music at Nazareth College and received her bachelor’s degree in 2011. She started auditioning at several colleges around the country to further her studies at graduate school. She was honored with acceptance to Peabody Institute at John Hopkins, Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, and Rider University. This was to be her most difficult cross road until she was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after.
In January 2016 she was seen in an Urgent Care for a lump she found under her arm. She was told not to worry as she was healthy and no concerning family history. In April during auditions for grad school, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In May of 2016 she underwent a double mastectomy followed by hormone therapy, soon after she had reconstruction surgery. In November 2016 she noticed a “rash on her incision”. Biopsy revealed more cancer. Subsequent testing, (CT scan and bone scan) revealed spots on her lungs. She now requires aggressive chemo therapy treatment for stage 4 breast cancer that metastasized to her lungs.
This has been an astounding and shocking diagnosis for a 27 year old woman to experience in her most adventurous, productive, and tender years. Not only has this been emotionally draining for Amy and her family, it has caused immense financial strain.
Rochester Gymnastics Academy staff, family, and friends have joined together to bring forward this Go Fund Me site to offer our assistance to offset some of the financial burdens, such as treatments, medicines, travel, and any other unknown or unexpected costs. It is tough enough to endure this emotional journey, much less keep up with the financial demands. It is our hope that we can offer financial relief to an already taxed woman and her family.
