Amy's Army Campaign

On the 27th December 2018, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer at the grand age of 25. I initially found a lump at the end of August and due to my young age and lack of cancer history in the family, I was told to just keep an eye on it. Noticing a change in the lump about 6 weeks later, I didn't go back to check since I thought I was too young to have been dealt the cancer card. Luckily, I became ill with tonsillitis in November and decided to get my lump checked then when I went to get my antibiotics. Long story short, this decision started the ball rolling of looking more into this lump which eventually led to my diagnosis two days after Christmas, and I have continued with procedures and treatments up until this point and still have a few months to go.

This is why we have started Amy's Army.  On the 11th May, myself along with close friends and family will be running a 5k Race for life in the hope to raise money for my two chosen charities, raise awareness for breast cancer in young people and to stress the message that it can unfortunately happen to anyone.  Each person who is running with Amy's Army has already donated towards Cancer Research UK and so I wanted there to be a fund raiser for other charities who help people like me.

- CoppaFeel!!https://coppafeel.org/  - This charity was set up by a woman who was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 23 after being told by doctor's that she was too young to get breast cancer. Her aim is to work around the country, encouraging people to 'Coppafeel' of their breasts, knowing what signs to look for.

- Look Good Feel Better https://www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk/  - From my point, one of the things that bothered me the most was the fact I was going to lose my hair, including eyelashes and eyebrows.  As someone who has never been a make up enthusiast or drawn on my eyebrows, this charity will allow me to 'look good feel better' by taking part in master classes, which makes girls feel more confident about their appearance.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated and are going to such a fantastic cause. I feel lucky that there are charities out there like this and am so thankful for the help and support they provide. So for a final message, please just make sure you keep on checking yourself regularly, and insist on a referral if you are not happy with the doctor's initial examination.

Thank you
