AMK Let off Steam 100km Trek

Right now, one in six workers in the UK is experiencing depression, anxiety or stress. In the construction industry, that means around 350,000 people at any one time. Suicide is now the leading cause of death in men between 15 and 49, with risk of suicide amongst male labourers in construction being 3 times higher than the male national average.
Focused on improving mental health and wellbeing through engagement and participation, the support group STEAM organises campaigns, challenges and events to raise awareness of mental health issues, particularly in the construction industry. By getting involved in physical activities, people are given the chance to ‘let off steam’ and can focus their energies on something different. The social element makes it a great opportunity to build friendships, strengthen working relationships and have a positive impact on mental wellbeing.
AMK will be taking part in a charity walk, led by STEAM, to raise awareness of mental health in the industry and to help overcome the stigma that is often attached to mental health.
The plan is to visit the offices of all three of the JV partner companies over a 2 day period.
Day 1 – 38.5 miles
Thursday 28th September
05:00 – Set off from Aecom office in Croydon
10:00 – Arrive at the Murphy yard in Kentish Town
13:00 – Arrive at AMK office in Edmonton
19:00 – Arrive Welwyn Garden City (overnight stay)
Day 2 – 28.5 miles
Friday 29th September
07:00 – Set off from Welwyn Garden City
17:00 – Arrive at Kier, Tempsford
