Amigos de Safari: Nosara after Nate

Donation protected

Tropical Storm Nate ravaged most of Costa Rica last week, but the Guanacaste Province was hit the hardest, including our beloved town of Nosara.

Along with the community of Nosara, several of our staff between Safari Surf School, El Manglar Restaurant, and the Olas Verdes Hotel have lost their homes, appliances, clothes, and memories...

Despite the devastation, pura vida is alive and well.
The local residents of Nosara have carried on in high spirits and come together to support those most affected by the storm with food, shelter, water, and love. Now is the time to clean, repair, and reconstruct.

Fortunately, the sun is shining and the hotel was not affected as the flooding in Playa Guiones was not as severe and our stormwater management design captured most of the runoff on the property. As a result, we have been able to host our staff while the cleaning and rebuilding process begins in Nosara town.

What Is Needed:
We are doing everything we can to support our family, friends, and the greater community of Nosara to bounce back, but we need your help to ensure a swift and effective recovery.

In addition to what Safari Surf and Olas Verdes are contributing to the community and our staff, we estimate that an additional $8,000 USD is required to reconstruct homes and purchase appliances and clothes for several of our employees as soon as possible.

How The Funds Will Be Delivered:
The funds will be received by Safari Surf School (Marsi Hogarth Marsh) in the U.S. because GoFundMe does not currently support banks in Costa Rica or our national currency. Once Safari receives the funds, 100% of the proceeds will be transferred to the Olas Verdes Hotel in Nosara where all of the funds will be distributed to staff with the most urgent needs. A local representative from each business (Safari Surf School, El Manglar, Olas Verdes) has been selected to coordinate needs and prioritize donations among the team.

Other Ways You Can Help
We are also encouraging people to donate to the Nosara Food Bank and the Costa Rican Red Cross if you would like to support relief efforts far and wide.

If you will be joining us in Nosara in the next few months, we remind you to please Pack for a Purpose and bring any extra clothes or school supplies you can fit in your suitcase.

Any donation is greatly appreciated. Sharing on social media goes a long way too! Thank you for your support!
