American Legion members have a goal to increase their involvement in the community and selectively provide programs to veterans. Read More About Post 27:
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veteran’s service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. Hundreds of local American Legion programs and activities strengthen the nation one community at a time.
The Shelton Tucker Craft American Legion Post 27 located in Fayetteville, AR was organized and chartered July 31, 1919 in honor of Martin Lynn Shelton who was killed in France on May 28, 1918 while trying to carry a wounded comrade to safety. Since that time the post has added the memorial titles honoring William Marion Tucker, USMC, killed in action on December 8, 1941 at Wake Island, and Medal of Honor recipient Clarence B. Craft who while serving as a private first class in Company G, 382nd Infantry, single handedly attacked the Japanese held “Hen Hill” on Okinawa using grenades to chase the defenders into a cave which he destroyed with explosive devices.
Post 27 holds a long and distinguished history of service to the Northwest Arkansas Community. Our Post conducts numerous programs that serve the community as a whole, in addition to their service to fellow veterans and their families. The Shelton Tucker Craft American Legion Post 27 supports more children to attend Boy’s and Girl’s state each year than any other post and most school districts. Their mission is to educate the youth of America in our political systems and these amazing veterans take every opportunity to make certain that the children understand the liberties they enjoy come at a cost.

Read More About Enactus:
Enactus is an international community of students, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world. Students develop leadership and critical thinking skills through projects that empower individuals and communities to be a part of their own success.
Our Enactus Team at the University of Arkansas is working in partnership with the Shelton Tucker Craft American Legion Post 27 to create a destination for veterans young and old. In order to accomplish this goal we found the need to remodel and repair the current facility and create a sustainable business model that provides the members with freedom to be involved in community and veteran outreach programs utilizing the revenue generated from this business for veteran and community support. The Post will serve as a social community of all veterans and will focus on service to each other and the community in which they live.
