Amelia to 2019 World Scout Jamboree

I am Amelia, and have been part of the Scouting community since I was 7 years old.  In that time, I have developed many practical, life and communication skills, am confident, have made friends and the Scouts have become part of an extended family to me.  Currently an Explorer Scout, I have been lucky enough to have been selected as part of a group of 36 Scouts and 4 leaders who will represent Greater London North at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA during 2019.  I am extremely excited to be given this new opportunity, and would be truly grateful if you could help me to raise the £3,800 that I need to get there.  Please help if you can…

I was chosen after putting myself forward for a selection weekend which involved physical and mental tasks that examined my problem solving, teamwork and leadership skills.

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest camping event organized by the Scout Movement, gathering as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders from more than 200 countries. Co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, the 24th World Scout Jamboree will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, United States from July 22 - August 2, 2019.

The World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace, mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills which includes a wide variety of outdoor adventure activities and places a great emphasis on everyday life and social interaction among different cultures that is experienced through the Scouting campsite.  “Unlock a New World” is the chosen theme and hints of the new adventures, cultures and friendships that will be shared by Scouts from around the world during the twelve day event.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve is the most advanced adventure camping base for youth in the world. From The Rocks climbing facilities, to zip lines that cover 5.45 miles, to The Park skateboard facilities, to The Trax BMX facilities, and three man-made lakes and pools that offer a variety of aquatic activities--you can start to get an idea of how unique this jamboree will be for its participants.

I will be working with the rest of the Contingent to fundraise over £3,700 each during the next 18 months. This will not only enable our attendance at the event but also contributes to Scouts from other less fortunate countries allowing them to attend as well.

If you are inspired by the potential of the World Scout Jamboree to enhance and develop the skills of the next generation, I invite you to contribute to my fundraising by making a donation.

All monies donated, will be provided to:
