AMCANI in Vietnam and Myanmar

$31,446 of $500,000 goal

Raised by 102 people in 50 months
We are a 501.c.3 NGO that has been working in SE Asia since 2005. Our model is to recycle abandoned medical equipment (beds, microscopes, etc), take it overseas and train local health care providers in the use of this equipment. Since 2005, we've been refining our model while building a micro-neurosurgical unit in Hue University Hospital, Hue Vietnam. We have collected data that proves the validity of what we do and presented it at a major medical meeting. Now,  we are expanding our focus on improving general medical care, in collaboration with Relief International, to northwest Myanmar's Rahkine province.  Your financial  support will fund the shipment of most of the contents of a 149 bed hospital that has been donated to us!

What we do exactly with donations:

Our overhead is only our banking fees and 99% of your tax deductible donation goes towards shipping and refurbishing the equipment that we ship.

For every $4,000 dollars raised we can send a 40 foot cargo container of medical equipment. i.e. gurneys, beds, and x-ray machines to Rahkine. We have 149 beds to send and each container holds 36. We can ship badly needed x-ray machines,  EKG machines, laboratory equipment, autoclaves, and even a CT scanner! We are in a unique position to introduce modern medical technology into an areas where none exist and then leverage that material donation by our teams of instructors.  Using the AMCANI model, our medical teams will donate there time and effort to train the local practitioners to elevate their level of care using the donate equipment. But we need to get the equipment there!

We have found that sustainable, modern, health care can be delivered by local practitioners once they have access and training to the tools of modern medicine. In combination with guidance as to what our local partners feel is most needed we can impact the lives of tens of thousands people . For the price of a dinner, won't you support us?

Thank you in advance for your generosity

Our lofty goals and why they matter. Part of what we are trying to do is raise funds for portable ultrasounds that run on a tablet computer. We can get brand new ones for less than the price of a used, old school x-ray machine. The ultrasounds cost about $5500 while an AMEX used portable x-ray machine cost between $8-12,000, weightss a ton, and has film and chemical needs. Factor in the supply chain cost for running an x-ray dark room and it’s not sustainable. We are going to deliver these machines with a solar power back-up. They can do most of the diagnostic work of an x-ray machine as well as be very useful for the mid-wives and thier pateints to help with a diffcult birth. They can also be used to drain abcessess, fluid collections and guide biopsies as well as perform bone setting and regional anesthetic blocks for pain control. And being extremly portable, they can be taken out on house calls!!! So we are trying to raise money not only for the Microbioogy labs but these cool ultrasound machines too. A tall Ask, but I’ve learned I need to be vocal otherewise none of you know why I am asking!

Dear AMCANI supporters... I am writing to everyone to appeal for more donations. By now, many if not most of you have read about the conflict in Rahkine state. AMCANI has not taken sides in the conflict as we believe that the principle underlying issue is the lack of resource. The press has conched this as a “Buddhist vs Muslim” or an “Army vs the Rohingya” issue. Although there is truth to these prospectives, the underlying cause is a lack of resource. As the Kofi Annan Commision reported, the number one driver of violence and ethic tensions in Rahkine State is lack of health care access. Approximately 40% of the Rohingya have been driven out of Rahkine, leaving 600,000 in camps. Furthermore, and in quite importantly, there are 2.2 million Buddhist Arkadian and other ethnic groups also in Rahkine state who still live with one of the worst health care systems in the world. On each of my trips I am impressed with my converations with locals about how they do live in harmony. This is somewhat a mirror of our own troubles in American between the ALT-RT and ANTI-FA; small groups getting a lot of press and attention but do not reflect the national spirit. Many of you generously donated and I know, with the spat of CAT V hurricanes and earthquakes damaging areas in the western hemisphere, might be feeling donor fatigue. But we are morally responsible as a world power to project that power where the need is great. Instead of the $75 bottle of wine. Buy a $25 one! Eat out one less time a week! Send that surplus $$$ here!!!! If you have not donated please do so.... If you have or can’t please help me access the power of crowd source funding, repost this on your Facebook page, Tweet it out with a pointer to this page... Yell it from the mountain top! If you add the numbers up we are again trying to save 3.2 million people who are in desperate need. AMCANI, from the beginning, has taken an impartial stance to the events in Rahkine. We are in good standing with Myanmar government, since I firmly believe that the “people of Rahkine” need assistance and not one group over the other.

I thank you for reading my long missive and I hope to see many of you at the 11/1 or 11/10 fund raisers here in NorCal. We are also planning an event in Fen 2018 in the SoCal.

Hi everyone.. Just a reminder to save the dates for our upcoming fund raisers. We're having an event in SF on 11/1 and another in the Mid-Peninsula area on 11/14. I hope you can attend one (or even both!!!). I'll be talking about the on going mission to Vietnam as well as the progress in Myanmar. Hope you can make. I will also follow up this posting with a few more details about each site so we can have more fun at the events rather than listen to me drone on.....

Hi everyone... As always we at AMCANI are trying not to burden you with too many "ask". But we are nearing a critical junction in out work in Myanmar. We are actively seeking donations to build and supply basic microbiology labs (~$759 each) and solar powered, portable, ultrasounds ($5,000) to each of the hospitals in the Rahkine system. You'll be hearing more details from us shortly about both programs as well as our two fund raisers in October.
