Amber and Cameron live in Tallong, New South Wales, right in the middle of the horrific bush fires. Amber originally lived here in the U.K but left a few years ago and set up a wonderful life and home with Cameron. They have two beautiful little girls, Poppy who is 18 months old and a new baby, Bonnie, who is just four weeks old!
I have watched with horror as the fires threatened their home and farm. Cameron joined the local fire fighters and has been fighting in conditions that most of us cannot possibly imagine...quite simply hell on earth.
Then the news came a few days ago that they had had to evacuate their home. They took what they could, their dogs and their horses and were lucky enough to have a friend who has taken them all in. All this just a few weeks after giving birth to Bonnie by C-section! It is hard to imagine....
They are currently in a small bedroom with two single beds for the four of them. They have no home...and very few possessions. The fire has ripped through their home and they have lost everything including animals they didn't have time to save...mainly chickens and pigs.
Amber and Cameron are a lovely young couple with a beautiful little family, who's lives have been torn apart by the horrific fires. Cameron has only seen his new baby for 3 days of her new little life as he has been firefighting for weeks. Firefighting in such emergencies is voluntary and unpaid. Can you imagine being in this situation? Your home, your work, your possesions, everything gone, how do you rebuild anything resembling normality and with a new baby to boot? Where do you even start?
Amber, Cameron, little Poppy and baby Bonnie need a little help and support to rebuild their lives and get back on their feet as soon as possible. Just put yourself in their shoes for a few minutes and think about how you would feel.
They are lucky to have a fabulous friend who has given them a room for now but with fires still raging for weeks or maybe months to come, resources are stretched on a day to day basis. They are living on the good will of friends but this is not a long term solution.
