Amazing Mama Roo
Donation protected
Meet Mama Roo. She has been living at the People for Animals shelter in Mysore, India for around three years. She was hit by a car or motorcycle, which is a fairly common occurance for the street dogs here, and brought in for help. She has subsequently had both of her front legs amputated through a number of surgeries. The shelter does not have resources or facilities for complex wound care/surgery and amputation is common.
I volunteered at PFA two years ago and met Mama Roo then. She was living in a concrete cage with many dogs and puppies in varying states of distress. She was a sweet natured and trusting girl and I was blown away by watching her get around on just her hind legs. I brought home a sick and severely injured puppy that year, but I never stopped thinking about Mama Roo. I went to find her this weekend and was absolutely stunned that she is still alive. She's been moved to a larger enclosure with many other adult dogs. She spends much of her time laying on a concrete slab. It breaks my heart.
Mama Roo is not a young dog. She has not known much love or comfort over these years at the shelter and it is her time. She is so gentle and patient, a true yogi. We can't wait to give her the life she so deserves with our family in Canada!
Having brought a dog home once before we know how expensive it can be. We are anticipating some big expenses for Roo and would be incredibly grateful for your support in assisting with:
- getting her travel crate
- her flight to Canada
- vet bills (as any pet owner can tell you, these add up quickly!)
- dental work
- a wheelchair so she can have adventures with us
- physiotherapy/ any other physical therapy she may need as she learns to use her wheelchair
- training
- microchip, dog license (a requirement where we live), a bed, etc
