Help Amazing Love School Uganda

Donation protected
Amazing Love School is located in Nakyere, a remote and impoverished village in Namutumba District, Eastern Uganda. The children are on average five (5) years behind in literacy, compared to other regions of Uganda. There are no libraries, and usually only the teacher has access to the text books.

Girls are married off as early as 13 years to get some money for the family in form of bride price. Other girls work as house maids, barmaids, or farm laborers. Frequent droughts add to the significant challenges that threaten the way people in rural areas live. The community is trapped in overwhelming poverty even though there is a desire to break free.

School development is a very effective way of helping hundreds of children in impoverished communities to get a decent start in life.

At the Amazing Love School, we are short of classrooms. With the 400+ children, we need to expand the school to meet the growing need for classrooms, library, staff room, offices and storage space in order to accommodate effective learning.

-The multi-purpose building used for kindergarten was completed in 2006
-4 classroom block started in 2008 was completed in 2013
-2 kitchens and playgrounds were completed in 2014
-5 classroom three storeyed block was started in 2014
-School water-well started in 2015

We are grateful for all the support we have received. We are seeking capital funders to come alongside us in completing the storeyed building. The building will have three levels providing a boarding section to accommodate children who travel long distances to school.

The estimated cost to completion is $150,000 which includes the three classrooms, a library, offices, staff room, and accommodation for children.

Please join us on a journey of learning to transform hearts and mind-sets by supporting us in completing this project.

OUR STORY

When my husband James and I visited Uganda in 2001, we saw the poor state of education after so many years of political instability and mismanagement. The classes were overcrowded and teachers’ morale was very low. The impact was greatest in rural areas where schools are scattered and children have no access to books or school supplies. We were compelled to make a difference. Please visit our website for more information. www.amazinglovedevelopment.org

Realities for children at Amazing Love School:

-Some students come to school to get their only meal of the day (1 cup of corn meal flour put in hot water – no sugar or milk).
-Many students still struggle with learning how to read or write
-Some students come to school without books or pencils because of the costs
-Students rely on copying what is handwritten on the chalk board
-Most students have no school uniforms – a requirement for all schools
-Lack of shoes endangers children during rainy seasons or when using pit latrines
-Many complaints about headaches and tummy aches are usually due to hunger.

We would like to provide a nutritious meal to every student each school day and receive short term sponsors for teachers’ salaries, teaching resources, school uniforms, shoes and scholastic materials for students.

WHAT WE DO

We promote academic excellence , spiritual and character development through community empowerment, support for student and teacher welfare, leadership, skills development and construction of school buildings. We work with our partners local and abroad to promote literacy skills. The community is eager to rise to its full potential.

WHERE WE WORK

Nakyere Village  is a remote and impoverished village located in Namutumba District, Eastern Uganda. The children are on average five (5) years behind in literacy, compared to other regions of Uganda. This is a sharp decline in academic performance of children from schools in rural communities in Uganda over the past two decades.
