Amanda's Mission Trip to DR

My name is Amanda Ard and I am a wife, mother, hairstylist, and woodworker.
I have decided to go on my first mission trip to Juan Dolio in the Dominican Republic from June 25 - July 1 of this year. This trip is with my church, Relevant (www.relevantchurch.com), and Score International (www.scoreintl.org). Our team from Relevant will meet with the team from Score International and will minister to this community attending to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Our main focus will be the rehabilitation of a local school and giving medical assistance to the community's nursing home.
While I have already raised a personal goal of $1500 for this trip (this amount includes airfare, meals, lodging, ground transportation, trip insurance, ministry set up, and trip coordinator), our team is still in great need of support for the supplies we will be using to serve the people of Juan Dolio.
Any financial contribution you feel led to make will be greatly appreciated(your donation is 100% tax deductible). 100% of the donations go directly to this trip. There is no donation amount too small.
Why this means so much to me:
I will be honest, beyond my closest family/ friends and our church community, I have not been very vocal about my faith. I think this is in large part due to its unpopularity in society today. I have feared being put into a category of a judgmental, self righteous person as soon as someone hears the word Christian. The only person I hold responsible for this mentality is myself. While I regret that I have shut down my own voice and missed so many opportunities to advance the Kingdom of God, it has been on my heart to change my way of living. I know that when my life on this earth ends, the only thing that matters is how I lived out my walk with Jesus.
Recently I have been trying to focus on what that journey looks like for me. In my heart, I know the way I feel most led to serve is through community service. I want to affect lives through my actions, not just my words. This is ultimately why I chose to take part in this mission trip alongside my Relevant church family. If i can help this community even in the smallest way, it would mean a great deal to me. I am hopeful that my skill set in woodworking will be useful in our school rehab project, as well as my cosmetology training to be used at the nursing facility. I am excited and honored by the thought of being a small part of change for the people of Juan Dolio and I am confident this experience will create huge change within me.
