I’m reaching out to you on behalf of two special girls who are like daughters to me. Alyssa and Jenna Nowakowski lost their father Mark Nowakowski after a long battle with cancer 6 ½ years ago. I promised my friend Mark before he passed, that I would always be there for his daughters and his wife Kathi (my best friend) and help them any way I could. On Monday, after years of battling with alcoholism and heartbreak, Kathi suddenly passed away.
There was nothing Kathi loved more than to help and care for people in any way she could, something that made her such an incredible mother, wife, friend and nurse. Unfortunately while battling this disease, she struggled to hang on to her nursing career. She had fiercely tried to keep the house Mark built as a home for her daughters and do everything she could to support her girls despite her physical, emotional, and financial struggles. As she continued fighting throughout her hardships, she always assured her friends and family that it was going to be okay. Sadly, this was not to be. Mark and Kathi were taken from their daughters much too soon.
We are heartbroken and emotionally overwhelmed. For those of us who knew them, Mark and Kathi were generous people who made friends feel welcome and never shied away from offering a helping hand or a shoulder of support. It seems then most fitting that we do whatever we can to honor both their memories.
No child deserves to be parentless. I now feel even more compelled to fulfill my promise to Mark to take care of his daughters.
I am asking you to find it in your heart to pray for this family and to contribute whatever financial support you can to help Alyssa and Jenna through this difficult time. We are hoping in some way to lessen the stress and financial burden of funeral expenses, college loan payments, and other debt as they tackle not only their heartbreak, but the overwhelming financial burdens left behind by the untimely death of both their parents. It’s important for them to know they are not alone.
I know that the girls grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents and close family friends all feel the same commitment to make sure the girls are taken care of. Please join us in making this possible.
