Alverno College Liberia Project
Hello! We are an LA 230 Class of transfer students at Alverno College; which is a Woman's Liberal Arts Catholic College located within the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
We are currently working on a class service project called "Literature to Liberia". The mission of this service project is to raise money to purchse books. We will give the books to a high school that is located within the country of Liberia. The reading level of books we are looking to purchase or receive as donations are at a 5th to 12th grade reading level.
We are collecting funds for "Literature to Liberia" from April 1st to May 7th 2017. If you are on Alverno's College campus we will have a donation bin located in Christopher Hall as well as one in the Commons. They will be available to place any new or gently used books in them from April 4th 2017 to May 4th 2017.
This service project is important to us because we have learned about how Liberia has a low literacy rate compared to other countries; especially as it relates to girls.
Total Youth Literacy Rate (15-24 years, 2015)
Total: 54.47%
Male: 64.66%
Female: 43.97%
Adult Literacy Rate (15 years and over, 2005–2010)
Total: 47.6%
Male: 62.42%
Female: 32.81%
