Three years ago, in July of 2015, Renee was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer that has metastasized to her liver and lungs. Our journey undergoing palliative chemotherapy began. As a US Army Veteran, we believed we had fought our war. We were soon to realize, that our little family was in for another fight.

Renee went on to receive over 60 rounds of chemotherapy over the next three years. This amount of a first line chemotherapy treatment is extremely atypical and has not been clinically studied beyond 8 treatment cycles.

As a Mother, Renee is remarkable. She is caring and strong for our family even on days where she is not up to it.

As some of you know, it’s been a long journey and Renee has made great strides in maintaining her quality of life throughout this difficult time, although Renee’s most recent scans and blood work have shown a resistance to the current line of chemotherapy. That, coupled with the fact that we’ve been turned down for several clinical trials has prompted us to seek additional therapy options with greater success rates.

We have decided to seek treatment with the Berkeley Institute out of their clinic in Mexico, which would include a side effect free chemotherapy option along with supportive alternative therapies to achieve a 90% response rate. The treatment plan would consist of 4 days of chemotherapy every other week, conducted out of Berkeley’s clinic in Ensenada, Mexico for 6 months initially. After the initial 6 months, Renee would be evaluated and an ongoing treatment plan would be developed. Each treatment costs $4200, not including travel, meals and lodging costs. We appreciate every donation. Any donation funds that are not used will be rolled into a foundation to benefit others in a similar situation to also receive SEF Chemo treatment.

My wife is a fighter and we believe Renee has what it takes to make this a very successful treatment, but has been limited in available options due to monetary restrictions. We are asking you to help us in joining our battle for Renee’s health by raising enough money for her initial 6 months of treatment.

I know everyone has been thinking and praying for us and we wanted to let you know that the prayers are working. Renee's blood work has returned to normal. She is not in any pain or on any pain medications. We have had a meeting with our beloved care team at Medicor Cancer Centers and will be looking to move forward with Renee's treatments again very soon. We will be sure to keep you posted.

For those who are planning to attend the benefit in Scranton this Saturday, the date has been moved due to logistical issues. The new date will be Nov 11th. Hope to see you there!

So to say it mildly, Renee's birthday week last week didn't go as expected. Seems I would have learned this by now, but I'm always shocked at how unpredictable cancer is. After a really successful August treatment of conventional chemo and Renee's first SEF chemo treatment, I really didn't see this one coming.
Renee's bilirubin (measure of toxins in the liver) started increasing a little after we returned home from SEF chemo. This was expected die to cancer cell die off. What wasn't expected was that it continued to rise and fluid started to accumulate in her abdomen. This triggered a chain of events that essentially put Renee in liver failure, requiring two ER visits last week, surgical removal of abdominal fluid 4 times, 3 separate chemo treatments within a week time frame, and more pain medicine than she's used during this entire journey.
The outlook from the doctor's was bleak. The hope was to try chemo as a last ditch effort to save Renee...
So what caused this? It's really tough to say. Originally we thought Renee had too strong of a response to SEF chemo and the architecture of her liver was significantly disrupted. As the situation developed, it seems the issue might actually be explosive growth of cancer. Honest truth right now is that we will probably never fully know.
Today her bilirubin, tumor markers, liver enzymes, and abdominal fluid are all decreasing. We're not out of the woods by any stretch, but Renee's definitely stabilizing.
For now Renee's SEF chemo treatments are on hold until she can handle the full dose treatment. In the meantime, she will be getting conventional chemo and continuing her alternative treatments at home that have been effective.
Thank you for your support, prayers, and positive energy! To be here today after last week's challenges is nothing short of a miracle.
With the help of loving friends and family Emily celebrated her 4th birthday this past Sunday. The day, which may have otherwise been somber, was full of laughter and love. Emily ate as many cupcakes as she is old, which I believe was her birthday wish. The laughter and joy as she played on her hand built play set and wood rope bridge with her close friends and cousins reminded us of the important things in life and exactly how thankful we are for today. This journey, along with all of it's bumps, will shape and mold us, but it will never define us.
Much love,
The Daniel Family

Thanks to your generosity and kindness, we have raised enough for Renee's first 6 months of treatment! What an amazing effort from each of you, local businesses, and friends who we have yet to meet. Makes you realize the impact good people can have. Thank you so much for blessing our family and Renee with the chance to put her cancer into remission!

For those who know Renee, I'm sure you won't be surprised by the next part... we are in California and will be meeting with the doctor who created SEF Chemo today! Renee will be starting her first treatment this week.!

We will be continuing the fundraising efforts, since we have no idea how long this treatment regimen will last. Please follow Renee on her journey, support where and how you can, and be a part of something very special.
