Almost Mother's Day 5k

Honoring Mothers of Children in Heaven.

Many of you may know me, but not so many know the crux of my story.

From the time I was a babe I played with dolls, dreaming of being a Mother some day. Then the unthinkable happened. Just before Mother's Day in 2013 I miscarried my first child. The depth of my devastation could only be fully expressed in heart-wrenching sobs.  I had never felt so alone, so ashamed. As a woman who has yet to bear a child, it's a natural reaction to feel deep shame. When I lost another little one, and then two more, I felt isolated in my pain. Still, beauty comes from ashes, and there is healing from deep pain.

Over the last 5 years when I have shared my pain with close friends in intimate settings I learned I was not alone. Many, many women are feeling as I have in those dark days. I would not wish the loss of a child on anyone.

So now I'm doing something about it.

I am hosting an event named the "Almost Mother's Day 5k" the Saturday before Mother's Day, to show the women in my county who have suffered loss of a child - be it miscarriage, abortion, given-up-for-adoption, or even due to ravages of war - that they are seen. Yes, the hurt is deep; but others have walked through this pain and want to reach out to them in their time of need.

It is estimated that 15-25% of confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage. That's 1 friend of 4 who may be hiding this deep, rarely talked about pain.

My question now: Will you stand with me to create an affirming encounter for these Mothers?
