I have been given permission by the Easters to share little Allison's story, which I'm honored to do.
As many may know, Allison had emergency surgery on Sunday, May 15th. If you know Allison, you know a vibrant, energetic, smiling, happy toddler, so this came as a shock to all of us!
Allison had complained of not feeling well and lost her appetite. She was taken to the doctor, who immediately directed Keith and Irma to take Allison to the emergency room. After several studies, it was determined that Allison had a Wilms Tumor - this is an extremely rare kidney cancer, only affecting 500 children in the US. The tumor was removed, but a kidney had to be removed, as well. Allison will need to undergo chemotherapy and radiation as soon as she's stabilized to do so.
Currently, Allison is still in the pediatric ICU at Fairfax Children's Hospital.
I am reaching out to you to hopefully fill the obvious need that always comes with caring for a loved one. Keith has medical insurance, but the 8 hour surgery and 6 days in ICU will likely not be covered in full. Not to mention, Keith and Irma will be by Allison's side and away from work.
As a friend and former neighbor, the least I can do is rally those who love and care for the Easters and show them how much Allison is cared for.
Over the next couple of weeks, various forms of donation will be presented as options. For the time-being, GoFundMe is the most efficient. If you find it in your heart to donate, please do so and please watch for other fundraising details.
