UPDATE:  Originally this gofund me was setup to help with medical expenses due to a motorcycle accident. Unfortunately we have now converted it into a funeral fund.

Introduction: My name is Allen Casselman Jr. And I don't want to do this. But many people have asked if I was going to create a go fund me and pledged offerings if I did.  Originally I was not going to create a page such as this. I was simply going to let insurance handle all of the details. After speaking with insurance and a couple of attorneys I have learned that insurance most likely will not cover all of the expenses incurred. As if it wasn't scary enough to just be involved in such an accident. Now this..... So here is the page and here is the story.

On Sunday November 4th at approximately 5:30pm our parents were involved in a motorcycle accident just outside of Woodlake. They were out for their Sunday ride when a van made a U-Turn in front of them. Our parents were rushed to emergency and were prepped for surgery.  The doctor installed a plate and a rod between dad's tibia and femur to repair his leg and also relocated his shoulder.  Mom was sent to Cath Lab to see if they could find and stop internal bleeding, Then transferred to Community Regional Medical Center. She suffered a shattered femur, cracked pelvis, cracked hip, broken ankle, twisted ankle and fractured cheek bones.

Up to Tuesday November 20th they were doing great at the Tulare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. They were both learning to get into and out of wheel chairs. Both of their spirits were high and they were in positive recovery. On Tuesday the 20th that all changed...

At approx 12pm on November 20th, 2018 Allen Casselman Sr. passed away. We are not sure why or what caused it at this time. I was called to the rehabilitation center by mom and she told me that dad was having a seizure (he had never had a seizure before that we are aware of).  Within a few short minutes of my arrival he was gone. I spoke with the CHP on Wednesday to update them on his passing and they informed me that the case has been reopened and they are filing man slaughter charges against the driver of the van.

A little history about our father.
Allen Casselman Sr. Owned and Operated a small business in Tulare since 1984 "Tulare Mercantile". He was a lifelong member of POST 56 Amvets since he was a veteran of the US Navy. He had 2 children of his own and he selflessly took on 2 more children to raise as his own. So he is survived by his wife Nancy, His Sons(3) Allen Jr.(me), Eric, Joshua and his daughter Stephanie. He was a grandfather and a great grandfather. Allen Casselman Sr. was well known in the community for his charity to the underprivileged, the homeless and the local kids who didn't have money to keep their bicycles on the road. He believed that if the only cost of helping someone was his time then it was free. When I would ask him why he did all this stuff for free? He would simply say "because it is what I want to do" In his spare time he opened American Martial Arts Academy in Tulare. Here he would teach Self defense, Self accountability and moral values to all students who came before him. On Sunday's he loved nothing more than getting his wife Nancy on the back of the Bike so they could ride the country side and foothills of this valley.

Sadly his charity to others was at the expense of his own financial freedoms. As I am finding out now there is no nest egg. There is no life insurance. There are no real assets. There is only debt and more debt.

At this time we would like to thank everyone who has been supportive and at the same time, we must now ask for more. None of us were prepared for this accident. We were even less prepared for his passing. Please forgive me if this comes off as a begger on the street. Our family needs help, We need finances to cover all of the expenses that wont wait for insurance money or settlement money. So please, if you have something to share or can afford to spare a few dollars. Please do so. If you can't we still love you.

You can find his shop on google. Tulare Mercantile and his Martial Arts School called American Martial Arts Academy of Tulare. Facebook, instagram etc. This is not a GoFund me scam this is real. Every dollar you donate to this fund is greatly appreciated and will help ease the financial burden of this tragedy.

Thank you,
The Casselman/Nothstein Family.
