Alia's Prosthetic Leg

Donation protected
FORT MYERS, FL.  (December, 7, 2018) - Two years ago, the  South Fort Myers High School National Honor Society raised over $10,000 providing  motorized wheelchairs for two classmates.  Now, another need has surfaced.  A classmate needs her first prosthetic leg and the National Honor Society has started a Go Fund Me.

Alia was born with just one leg.  She has always used crutches to get around, but recently both her crutches broke.  She is now confined to a wheelchair.

The National Honor Society contacted local orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Edward Dupay, who agreed to donate his services for examining her leg.   On December 10th, 2018, Alia visited Dr. Dupay for an exam and got the prescription for the actual prosthetic leg.   Friday, December 14th,  Alia visited the Hanger Clinic where they  began  the process of evaluating her leg and creating a custom device.  She will be walking with her new leg by the third week in January!

South Fort Myers High School is a Title I School, founded in 2005.  The campus curriculum includes vocational programs such as Welding, Medical Certification, Veterinarian Science, Criminal Justice, and Electrical.  The school also boasts dual enrollment courses, an AP Program, and AVID.
