Alex's teeth before Treatment
Donation protected
Alex K. is a non-verbal 10 year old boy with cerebral palsy and a severe seizure disorder. Alex lives in a community west of Chicago with his mother, Leanne, who has cared forAlex on her own since birth. Alex and his mother are facing eviction from their home in approximately 90 days and will be homeless unless we can raise enough money for adequate housing until a permanent solution can be found. Unfortunately, here in Illinois, Section 8 (subsidized housing) is extremely limited and it can take months to find a suitable apartment.
Alex's father is addicted to narcotics and has not been involved since Alex was an infant. Due to Alex's cerebral palsy and seizure disorder (he has an implanted vagus nerve stimulator and is currently taking seven medications), Alex requires 24/7 attention which prevents Alex's mom from working outside the home. Mom has no relatives to help her care for Alex, and the State of Illinois is broke and has no money to provide an aide or respite services for Alex's mother. Alex's mom is in poor health, having had a heart attack and a stent implanted 7 years ago. Mom is also a diabetic and has three (3) herniated disks which she cannot have repaired since there is nobody to take care of Alex while she is recovering from orthopedic surgery. The disks are only getting worse since Alex's mom needs to carry Alex up and down the stairs from their apartment to the street. Mom cannot get a colonoscopy due to lack of backup care for Alex. Both Alex and his mom also have very bad teeth. Alex requires dental trratment under general anesthesia as soon as possible and Leanne has several abscessed teeth which are exacerbated by her diabetes.
We are raising money for the follwing critical needs Alex and his mother face: (1) $10,000 to provide essential living expenses for Alex and his mother until they can find Section 8 or other affordable housing after the are evicted from their home.; (2) $5,000 to pay for Alex's dental care performed under general anesthesia; and (3)$2500 to extract Alex's mother's infected teeth and to save as many of her decayed teeth as possible. The total amount we are raising is $17,500.
Thank you for helping Alex and his mother in their time of need. May you never know such adversity and merit much good fortune for your kindness.
