Bringing Alex Busby Home

Donation protected

UPDATE: Alex is now TWO years old and a heart transplant SURVIVOR! After 175 days in the hospital he is scheduled to be discharged on Wednesday, January 3rd! In addition to residual medical expenses, the needs for this sweet family will be shifting now as Alex will require multiple therapies and interventions to catch back up. He will also need medications and immune support. We are so proud to have met our original goal of $10,000 so now I'm increasing our donation amount. Karin will still need to be available for Alex and the other kids which means a continued decrease in income for the family. Any donations will help offset these expenses as well day to day living expenses. From the depths of my heart I thank you all for the continued thoughts and prayers. Thank you also for your financial contributions, which have enabled the Busby's to focus on Alex and the rest of the children. Thank you! - Leslie Halencak

-------------------------------------------------
Alex is a sweet 19 month old boy who was born with a congenital heart defect called Pulmonary Atresia with VSD. Alex has a hole between the lower to chambers (ventricles) and he is missing the artery and valve that connects his heart to his lungs. This has required multiple surgeries. Through it all he has been a strong little fighter. Alex was admitted into the hospital in the middle of July at which time he had a new pacemaker placed. On August 17th, Alex underwent a heart catheterization procedure to stent open his conduit. He "grayed out" during cath, showing a loss of blood to his body and the next morning, he coded while in recovery. At this moment, his parents almost lost their sweet boy, but thanks to the swift actions of his medical team he was revived. In true warrior form Alex fought back. He has now been placed on an artificial bypass machine called ECMO which is allowing his heart to rest and heal. Thankfully a CT scan came back normal meaning no damage done to his brain when he coded those few times. Alex is currently stable and heavily sedated so his body, heart, and lungs can rest. We are asking for support to help the family with medical expenses and other everyday living expenses for their family.
