Aletha's Cancer Treatment Bills!

$3,970 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 48 people in 39 months
My name is Aletha Turner and I am a Breast Cancer Survivor - 10 years in in February 2016 - who has recently been diagnosed with a recurrence of Breast Cancer.  Since this is my second go round with this disease, I have been told that my best course of treatment is a double mastectomy. Since it is early stages the Doctors are sure this will take care of it!

This has not only been devastating mentally, but due to the economy and not being able to find a full time job, we are not in the best financial position.

I do have health insurance that goes into effect July 1, but it will not cover 100%.  I already have over to $5,000 in bills for all the test and biopsy’s.  The insurance I had previously only covered the diagnostic test – the initial mammogram.  Did not cover further testing or biopsy’s, ultrasounds, etc.

Even if I could find a full time job, I will not able to work full time, probably not even part time for a while, so this is going to be extremely stressful financially.  Like I said, I already a lot of medical bills and other bills that need to be paid just to keep a roof over our heads!

I am 58, am a mother of 4 great children and have 4 grandchildren of my own and 4 from my husband – so 8 in total!  My oldest grandchild recently turned 16! I am the Editor in Chief of a Veterans Publication – Veterans Post News – www.facebook.com/veteranspostnews and www.veteranspost.net  that comes out monthly.  I don’t really get paid for that one, but it does bring in a little money each month.

I am already spreading money around as best I can and trying to make arrangements so I can pay things over time, but it is so overwhelming right now.

I have never asked for things for myself before.  I have worked for numerous charities and other non-profit organizations, but have never asked for anything just for me.  This has been very difficult for me and I appreciate any help that will come my way!  Please consider donating… any amount would be greatly appreciated!

You can also find me on facebook – just look me up – Aletha Turner (Palm Harbor) – I would love to have you as a facebook friend!

Thank you for reading this!  If you don’t feel able to donate, please spread the word!

Anything you can donate will help!

Thank you!

Haven't posted an update in a while am doing fine physically, but still struggling mentally. It's funny because I always wondered how some people adjust to losing a limb or other body part. Some seem to do fine while others can't seem to accept it. I think most people fall in the middle of that scale. I know I do. . Some days I am just fine Others I am unable to look at mysel. Most times I avoid looking at my scars in the mirror, just so I can pretend all is well. Other days I look and I can't look away... Like watching a train wreck. I think most days I am fine with the way things are, but there are still those days when I just don't want to get out of bed. It is getting further between those days , so I know I am getting better. Some days are just harder than others. Thanks for all your support!! It does help when I know that you are thinking and sending good thoughts my way!!

Recently I posted on the Crotchet Crowd a picture of the tablecloth I had made for my Mother! It actually went viral, sort of - garnering over 11,000 likes and over 1200 comments and shares! I have a lot of people asking for the pattern (I have attached a picture of the Tablecloth)! The pattern is a family heirloom, passed down for generations of my husbands family. His mother (who is 92) shared it with me several years ago - it has never been written down until now!

I will gladly share the pattern with everyone without charge, but would ask that you donate something to my campaign.

PLEASE REMEMBER - It is not a prerequisite for getting the pattern! I will gladly send that to you for free, however,I would greatly appreciate any help you would consider! Every little pit helps!!

Please send me your email address and I will send you the pattern!

Thanks to all those that have helped and any others that will! Merry Christmas!!

If you hadn't heard I had to have gallbladder surgery on Tuesday! Went in to the hospital (by ambulance no less) on Sunday. Seriously we thought I was having a heart attack! The pain started in my chest and radiated up into my jaw! No belly pain at all! Anyway after many hours and a BUNCH of heart test they finally determined on Monday that us was my gallbladder. Some of the worst pain I've had.. Even including the double mastectomy! They said I had one very large stone and it was blocking or sitting in the exit duct if the gallbladder which if course caused a backup... Hence the pain!! Came home in Wednesday. Still dealing with belly pain. Only really hurts when I move, but it is getting better! I have been having issues with my left shoulder (rotater cuff possibly) and was scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday... Of course I had to cancel that. I the new appointment on Wed if this week. If they tell me I need surgery on that I think I might just lose it!! Hopefully it is just tendinitis and can be taken care of with physical therapy! I am not sure I can handle much more! I have lost a few more pounds! Which is a good thing! So far a total of 37 pounds!! Almost to 40!!! Yeah!!
I know it is a bad time to ask for help, but any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! I will update on my shoulder next week! Love to all and thanks for all you help so far!! Merry Christmas!!

Haven't given an update in a while. Have been struggling with a few things. Still on a good path to losing weight Have lost 35 pounds so far, of course 10 of that was boobs. Still the plastic surgeon wants me to lose 90 more pounds. Seems insurmountable at times. Then again I have been going back and forth about having the surgery at all. For one thing I can't have implants due to radiation damage from the last time I had this almost 10 years ago. He said the skin would just die if we tried to stretch it out. So the only kind I can have is the Trans-flap reconstruction where the take skin and fat from the belly and basically construct new breasts. The surgery could take 10-12 hours and I would be in the hospital for up to 7 days with recovery taking months. I am just not sure it would be worth it. But I have time to decide, At least that is something. And maybe once I have lost the weight I will feel better and fell more like having it then.

Anyway!! I am going to a physical therapist now too. My left shoulder is giving me fits. Can't sleep on that side and it hurts all the time. They think it is realtors to the chest wall muscles on the left side that are still very tight. They are going to try loosen those up and hopefully that will help my shoulder. We shall see. Just something else to go through!

Still struggling with bills so any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks again to all those that have helped! Love to all!
