Aleks was born on 17/9/17 at 7pm together with his twin brother Maks. The pregnancy was normal with all the vital signs perfect until week 35 of the pregnancy when it was noticed Aleks was not gaining anymore weight so an early C-section was called for.

What was too come next was life changing/demanding & all parents worst nightmare; a lovely new born twin delivered with a non curable disease called EB; better know as Butterfly Disease. A skin condition that has no cure and is extremely painful with constant blisters.

Aleks was brought to Crumlin immediately and there became his home for the next 91 days and a second home for our family. We will be forever in death to the amazing staff of the Nazareth ward in Crumlin Children's Hospital.

Aleks has a very very long road ahead of him with constant skin care. He has nurses designated to him for his daily skin care that can take up to 4 - 6 hrs per day. He has a special soft play area made for him in the room and we had to get his room temp controlled as his skin gets very bad if exposed to any normal room temperatures.

We as a family have had to adapt to the unforeseen circumstances and the other kids have suffered a lot. We live in a small 3 bedroom bungalow with Aleks twin and 3 other siblings. The other kids can not even play inside when Aleks is asleep as there is no way we can allow him to be disturb as his sleep patterns are so unplanned. The house is like grand central station with the constant stream of nurses, specialists and physiotherapist that are trying to help Aleks achieve some sense of a normal life which will be forever grateful for the help and care they have given our son.

We feel a modular home for daily use for the nurses/specialists and all the other professionals could allow our family to start living a normal life and not be in constant fear of waking or interfering in Aleks skin care.

We feel this would be a major factor to helping our family as a unit to have some private family space and bring some sanity back inside the door of the O'Keeffe family home. We have been inundated with offers of help to erect the modular home as this will keep the costs inline with our target of €10,000. Any donation, however small would be greatly appreciated.
