Today our community and beyond, mourn the loss of a wonderful man. On June 23rd our beloved friend and Athens Ohio community member Tad Albano was struck by a "hit and run" driver. He spent over 2.5 days at Grant Medical Center on life support in the ICU with critical injuries. He fought with all he had and we were all so hopeful. He was even referred to as a "miracle patient" by the staff there. Sadly, today, June 26th, he has passed...the damage just too severe.
Tad’s passing leaves many friends and loved ones (including 6 amazingly beautiful children and their mother Adrienne, as well as a whole community of soccer enthusiasts and admirers of his work as a landscaper) devastated by this loss.
This fund was initially created by Jodie, the Dezio-Albano family’s long-time homeschooling and soccer pal. Since then, help and support from many more of those that love this family has come in many forms.
The fund was started with the intent to help Tad's family get through this crisis by providing coverage of basic needs and living expenses such as housing, rent/mortgage/lodging in Columbus/ car payment/car maintenance/repairs, gas money, propane, utilities, bills, food and other necessities related to care of the children and family that may arise. Really it was/is to be used in any capacity that helps relieve the financial burden/stress that this devastating loss creates.
The unbelievable growth of the fund over these three days is a testament to just how much this incredible man and family are loved. Just read the FB posts of so many who knew him and you will clearly hear the overwhelming love and respect people have for Tad and his family.
“He changed the lives of countless young people through his infectious enthusiasm and approach to soccer as a life skill. Kids and parents alike adored him” is just one example.

Tad was a long-time community advocate of youth development in soccer. He owned and operated the Athens Soccer Academy along with a landscaping company called Gardening Ghost. He has been a mentor to countless Athens youth over the years. He gave much to our community and has positively impacted so many lives. It is truly inspirational to see the community give back and support his family both financially and emotionally during this difficult time. Albano family, know that you are loved. We hope that you feel that love.
Athens and extended family, you are a remarkable community and we, the friends of the Albanos thank you.

Tad, your gentle, supportive spirit will be missed beyond measure.

RIP coach.

The friends and family of Tad Albano are looking to display a slide show at a Celebration of life at the Athens Community Center on July 28th (possibly a Casa event to follow at 9pm). Details to follow. Please spread the word that a google drive document has been created for all to upload pictures onto for the event. The link is at the end of this message. I am not tech savvy and can’t explain the process If all else fails, we thought folks could post pics to Tad’s FB page for one of us to upload to the drive. Maybe pictures or sentiments you would like to be heard at the event could even be uploaded here on this fund site as well? Thank you for any contribution of pictures, words/sentiments, videos you can make in order to honor Tad in a way that he and his loved ones deserve.

Update from Adzuki, Tad’s eldest.
“Ok, so my dad is stable and we are hoping for a surgery tomorrow. He was responsive to simple commands so we are hoping for minimal brain damage if that. Still pretty banged up but we are very hopeful. I must credit it to all the positive vibes and prayers that have been sent our way. Thank you everyone for all the help and support. We are so blessed to be apart of such a loving and supportive community and we cannot thank everyone enough for everything that has been done to help and support us in this hard time. Will keep you updated! ❤️”
Thank you Athens and extended family for your continued support and outpouring of love and compassion for this amazing family.

An update in Adrienne’s words...... Tad is on life support in the ICU. He has abdominal bleeding, bruised and collapsed lungs, and issues with his kidneys. He also has bilateral rib fractures, a left hip fracture, some fractures on the "wings" of vertebrae, left humerus, wrist, and several facial fractures. They tried to perform surgery to deal with abdominal injuries and pelvic fracture earlier today, but he became too unstable to continue. They had to restart his heart four times and give him a bunch of blood pressure medicine. This caused his oxygen levels to plummet. They had little hope he would survive and thought he would have brain injuries from lack of oxygen if he did. But he has been relatively stable for hours now, his oxygen is at close to acceptable levels, and there are many other positive indicators. They are now decreasing the blood medicine with good result. The whole floor is excited about his ability to follow commands. He opened his eyes when the neurologist said his name, he wiggled his toes and attempted a thumbs up when told to do so. He has movement in all of his extremities. And his brain looked to have little injury on the initial cat scan. If he remains stable overnight, he will have another cat scan in the morning and they will likely attempt surgery again.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support. I know they have helped, and I am hopeful for recovery.
