Hi, my name is Kim Neel (left). I am a cancer survivor and the founder of Alala Cancer Society, a South Carolina 501c3 Nonprofit that provides post-surgical equipment to under- and uninsured cancer survivors in all of South Carolina.
I am raising money to fund the purchase of an RV that would allow my organization to travel to rural areas and provide assistance to those who cannot get the treatment and care that they need.

In South Carolina, we have more deaths from breast cancer than over half of the rest of the country, and shocking statistics will tell you that inpatient hospitalization cost more than $44 million in South Carolina for 2014 alone. For one individual, being hospitalized for less than 3 days, on average, had a cost of over $50,000. To put that into perspective, $50,000 is greater than the annual income of up to 50% of people aged 40-64 in many of the rural counties in South Carolina, and up to 21% of those people have no health insurance at all.

A majority of the people living in rural counties have no access to healthcare facilities, and many of those same people have no means of transportation to get treatment, screenings, or other medical services.

Alala Cancer Society’s goal is to reach these people and to make them feel whole again. We have been operating since 2008.  In the 2016 fiscal year alone, we were able to assist over 300 individuals across the state by providing over $60,000 in monetary and in-kind aid (direct financial assistance, gas cards, breast prostheses, mastectomy and compression garments, cranial prostheses, etc).

On top of our normal operations, we also have pending grant applications with Susan G. Komen South Carolina, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, and Trinity Bazaar. The purpose of these grants would be to fund a project that would allow us to provide more direct financial assistance to those in need as well as to educate survivors and healthcare professionals about the resources that are available to them.

If you would like to help us make people feel whole again, please donate to our RV campaign and on our website: www.alalacancersociety.org
