Xiaoxian became a single mother of a 16 day old daughter and an 18 month old infant boy when their father, Rongfeng Mai, was stabbed to death in early October in SODO in Seattle.
From the very beginning, not being able to communicate well in English, Cen's family were treated very poorly, and kept in the dark. Without providing a translator, The Seattle Police Department and the King County Prosecutor's offce failed to relay important information to Cen and her family.
After the fatal stabbing, Ronald Mann was on the loose for over 24 hours before he was arrested in Edmond. Xiaoxian and her family was told by the Seattle Police Department and the King County Prosecutor’s office that the defendant was released with NO CHARGES FILED.
Due to the inability to communicate with police officers, Cen and her family were sent home with no explanation for why no charges were filed. Till this day, they remain confused, hopeless and as helpless as to why Mann was not charged. We wonder if they were an affluent white family, whether they would have been treated the same.
A widowed mother of two young children is left with no justice. She was told her only recourse was to bring a civil suit against the defendant. When the King County Prosecutor’s Office fails to prosecute a murderer, how can a single mother of two seek recourse civilly? The law clearly isn’t in favor of Xiaoxian and her two young children. Without a guilty verdict, it will be difficult for Xiaoxian and her two young children to receive a positive outcome from defendant through a civil trial.
We ask for your help, to help support the widowed mother and two newborn children, who lost their father at such a young age. The 16 day old daughter, hasn’t even had the chance to take a family photo with her father, Rongfeng, and now she no longer has the chance.
We ask that you help spread the word, spread this disheartening story, to people around Seattle, Washington and the nation that with a simple bail, a murderer is let lose back into the community with no recourses for the family.
