I want to stress that this is not just an awareness event, this is a movement. A movement in hopes to raise awareness, more understanding, a more supportive and connected, and inclusive community that will lead to an equitable city for all in Fort Sask. I believe this all starts with understanding. My name is Akayla Montague. I believe in many aspects that I have alot to offer this world. I believe I can achieve most anything by extending the love, understanding and support sharing a story of success and appreciating life from a different perspective. Austin Riley, Well known for being Canada’s first race car driver with autism, has broken barriers and accomplished amazing things choosing not to let a diagnosis dictate his potential. Austin has become more than a successful individual following his dreams, he has made it his mission to extend the support and inspiration onto others while giving them a glimpse into his own extraordinary perspective. Austin has shown that you can follow your dreams no matter the circumstance. He has made it possible for others to believe they can do anything. Austin has the power to educate and impact others with his incredible story and passion to raise awareness of Autism. Racing with Autism, An organization created to not only raise awareness of Autism, but to show others that with the right support and encouragement to follow your dreams, any individual is capable of the same success no matter the circumstance. Racing with Autism is empowering to each person given the opportunity to hear Austins story, seeing that the possibilities are endless if you understand and appreciate the hidden gifts and beautiful perspectives within our world. To show those with Autism that they are capable of anything, while teaching those without to accept and embrace each other, can create the foundation of inspiration for everyone to strive for their fullest potential. The Autism Reality Experience, The Autism Reality Experience is one like no other. The A.R.E underlines and demonstrates a virtual experience, giving greater insight from the perspective of someone with autism. To better understand what someone with autism may face, will create a greater ability to assist their needs directly, while allowing them to reach their full potential. Those who take a step into a different state of mind while being exposed to the sensory challenges someone with autism experiences can help us help them. Participating in the Autism Reality Experience is an opportunity to expand knowledge and acceptance towards those with autism by seeing the world through their eyes. I had proposed my original plan about a month ago to have the organization take place throughout a few of the schools in Fort Saskatchewan during their tour this year. When directly communicating with the organization as well as the hopeful representatives, I became aware that this exact plan might need to be reconsidered. There was unfortunately no funding to assist in costs, also being under a short period of time. After reorganizing my plans and being left here, I am proud to announce that it is my mission to take part in such an incredible opportunity of the Racing with Autism and The Autism Reality Experience. While I have been presented with a roadblock, I believe that the importance, support and beneficial knowledge that can come out of this opportunity should not be overlooked. My new plan is to have ARE and RWA here in Fort Sask on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. I am currently looking for a location to hold the event, while independently reaching out to anyone interested and willing to make a difference. I want to show and give experience to the differences, stress that differences arent bad, their just different. And that no matter the differences, we will not let a diagnosis dictate anyone's potential. The driving force to which brought me here is undeniably my brother Mycah. Mycah was diagnosed with Autism 5 years ago. I couldn't be more proud to have experienced and been apart of his growth, his smile, his charm and being in the 7 years he has been around. He is my mission to start something amazing. This mission is an opportunity for those who are directly affected by Autism or someone with it. This is a mission for those who want to understand. This is a mission for those with an open mind and heart, and those willing to embrace themselves and stand with me in hopes to change the world. One piece at a time. This is for you Mycah. ❤️ My GOAL is to raise $1400. With the dedication and passion put into this project and being acknowledged by the organization given the circumstances I am in, I want to express my gratitude by raising the $1400 in the city I believe can change if we stand together.
