Ageing without Children (AWOC)
1 million people over 65 do not have adult children. For them, there is no one to make calls to social services, pick up equipment or pop to the hospital every day to make sure they are being properly cared for. No one to help with little everyday tasks such as heavy housework or gardening that cant be managed any longer. No one to to negotiate the confusing telephone systems of the gas or water company on their behalf, no one to find their way through websites to get useful information. No one to help find care services if needed or to look at residential care if the time comes
We founded ageing without children to shine a light on this hitherto overlooked group of people of whom we are part
Our aim was firstly to get the issue recognised as something that needed to be thought about and acted upon, and secondly to find ways of answering the challenge it brings namely
who will be there for the people with no one?
