African Pediatric Medical Mission

   Ever since I was a young girl I have dreamt of traveling to areas of health desolation to help women and children; when I was 16 a friend of mine even made me a t-shirt stating "Will help African babies one day".  As I journeyed through my education I discovered a unique interest in refugee healthcare; while I worked with some here in the USA, my heart has always been in medical missions abroad.

   After many years of dreaming of such, I have finally been offered an opportunity to be a part of a medical mission in Uganda's Rhino Refugee Camp, home to many South Sudanese women and children. On March 11 - 21st 2018, I will be one nurse on a team of healthcare providers that travels to this camp to set up a pediatric medical clinic, complete with a mobile pharmacy, to offer medical care to the children who otherwise do not have access to such healthcare. We will focus on treating minor ailments, infections, and traumas; while also teaching the women about health and hygiene to prevent disease from spreading.

   I began this page to help raise funds to be able to go on this journey. The money will be used for travel expenses (Including tickets, vaccines, visas, etc.) as well as medical equipment. Each of the team members are allowed minimal personal items as most of what we are transporting as our "luggage" will be medical equipment and supplies.

   Unfortunately being young and just starting out in life doesn't afford many funds to pursue dreams such as these, and due to this I initially turned down this opportunity to err on the side of fiscal responsibility. I thought "If you don't have the money, then you cant do it." For the next two weeks, however, there wasn't a second I wasn't thinking of this mission, and felt that at every turn God was putting various signs in my path urging me towards accepting this opportunity. After playing out various ways I could rearranged my finances, I decided I needed to reach out for help.

   I am so blessed to have a skill set where I can offer tangible help to children in need. With your donations I can be one brick in the foundation that is a better world. I appreciate every cent donated to this cause, and am forever grateful, as I know that I am blessed to even have the ability to travel and be apart of such an amazing team of dedicate healthcare workers and spiritual warriors.
