We have been to Afghanistan numerous times and have firsthand witnessed how underfunded and overcrowded the hospitals are. The healthcare system is poor and limited and so as a result, healthcare providers are working with very limited resources to treat their patients.
One hospital that we visited was in in Obeh . Obeh is a small village in Herat, Afghanistan that has limited access to proper health care. The people from Obeh are living in poverty and do not have the means to go to the city of Herat where the hospitals are slightly better. We talked with the doctors at the hospital and gave us a tour of the small hospital. The hospital consists of a couple rooms and do not have enough medical supplies due to lack of funding from the Afghan government. The doctors told us that the lack of medical supplies affects the quality of treatment and often can not treat them properly.
With donations, we hope to provide medical supplies such as wheelchairs, crutches, oxygen tanks, sphygmomanometers, glucose meters, x-ray machines, and even more basic supplies like chairs, paper towels, syringes, vitamins, etc so that the quality of care can increase and patients can get proper treatment. We will work with a local trusted community member that we have known for years who lives in Obeh. He will receive the money and go to a local medical supplies store to buy everything. He will use 100% of donations to buy the medical supplies and then will personally go to the hospital and deliver the medical supplies. While we are unable to be there, we will be in constant contact with the person and after the process is done, we will share photos and videos to show that they have been bought and delivered to the hospital in Obeh.
