AE4FH to YOTA in South Africa

Donation protected
Update - GoFundMe asked me to add this information...

Faith Hannah is my daughter. She lives in my house with her mother, siblings, and me. She has been chosen to go to YOTA in South Africa in August and I will purchase the tickets and pay expenses for her with her by my side.

Thank you,

James (Dad)

Faith Hannah (AE4FH) is a thirteen year old amateur radio operator who has just been invited to represent the United States at the 2018 Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) Summer Event in South Africa!

This young lady, who holds the highest class amateur radio license available in the US, was first licensed at age 10, and she is very active on the airwaves and in promoting amateur radio through a YouTube  channel she has with her siblings and personal appearances at amateur radio hamfests around the eastern part of the US.

The YOTA Summer Event will host about 80 young amateur radio operators from 34 countries in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as Faith Hannah–the first youth amateur radio operator to represent the United States at a YOTA event.  During the week-long event, the youth will have the opportunity to learn about different nationalities and cultures, foster life-long international friendships and good will, as well as learning new radio communication and technical skills.  The event will be from August 8-15, 2018 and is hosted by the South African Radio League.  This will be the first time that a YOTA event has been held in South Africa.  There is more information about the YOTA Summer Event at www.zs9yota.co.za .

One of the reasons that Faith Hannah was chosen to attend the event is to help bring YOTA into the IARU Region 2, which comprises of North and South America.  It is the hope of the YOTA organizers to start YOTA groups in IARU Region 2.  Faith Hannah's outreach through the YouTube channel and in speaking at hamfests can help bring this vision to reality.

Faith Hannah will be traveling to South Africa from Florida in early August, 2018.  South African immigration laws require that she travel with a parent, so her father James (WX4TV) will be traveling with her.  Plane tickets are about $3,500 and there will be expenses for international evacuation and health insurance, passport renewals, and lodging while on layovers on the trip to and from South Africa.  Plane tickets need to be purchased quickly in order to secure the best pricing.

This incredible opportunity was just offered to Faith Hannah and she doesn't have the time to raise the funds the way she normally would–by making and selling paracord bracelets and lanyards.  She hopes that the amateur radio community will generously step-up to help fill the need.  The paragraph below is in Faith Hannah's own words...

"When I was chosen to go to South Africa for the YOTA summer event, I was thrilled that the committee thought I was one of the best choices to represent the United States.  The cost of the trip and the deadline it needs to be paid for does not allow me enough time to raise the funds in my usual way to be able to go.  With the help and generosity of other hams, I will be able to go to South Africa for the summer event and learn more about amateur radio and other cultures.  I am extremely thankful for any and all donations.  To everyone who donates, thank you."
