Get Grandma Outta This Shack!

Donation protected

This is Adra. She lives in a tumbledown shack in Winstonville, MS with her disabled son Larry. The shack looks like one of those abandoned, falling-down houses you might see by the side of the road when you go for a drive.

Adra is a down-to-earth woman, proud, independent, never looking for charity. Her entire life she's followed the path of the heart, a life devoted to love, She's delivered babies and taken care of others, freely sharing everything she had, but now she needs our help.

The elements have taken a toll on Adra's home, wripping it apart and tearing down the walls. One of the outside walls is leaning precariously, propped up by boards.

The room on the inside of that wall is open to the elements and collapsed on the inside. And the rest of the house isn't in much better shape.

Most would consider this shack uninhabitable, but Adra and Larry have nowhere else to go. They've lived there for years, struggling to patch it up, but it won't last another winter.  The State of Mississippi won't help, and their neighbors and loved ones are as poor as they are.

We need to raise money to get Adra and Larry a trailer home before the winter weather flies.  Presently, they live on $498 in social security per month, and one-third of that goes to heat or cool this shack--so much money wasted because of the gaping holes in the ceiling. walls and floor.  The tiny fan they use to try to stay cool is no match for the hot Mississippi summers. But soon there won't be anything left to heat or cool because the dangerous structure will surely collapse.

There's no time to waste. Can you help buy Adra and Larry a trailer home to live in? We're off to a good start, but we need to cast the net wider. We need your help too.
