ADELBERT HARTWELL Accident Fund
Donation protected
Our neighbor and friend Adelbert Hartwell had a bad bicycle accident last night; a car pulled in front of him and he and bike flew over the top of the car and onto the cement. He has been to the Emergency Room and is home now, but can hardly walk, and is in pain. His bike is in rough shape--not sure it can be saved. He does not have a car.
He normally works two jobs to make ends meet. Those of you who know him, know that he works hard for us, at very physical endeavors, in all weather; dedicated to the elimination of invasive plant species from our yards. Ivy, blackberries, holly, lesser celandine, and more. He digs up the worst of plants by the roots ignoring stickers, steep hillsides, mud and rain.
He also volunteers doing the same in our parks, hiway intersections, and is a volunteer member of Hands On Greater Portland. His second job is as a bicycle courier with Postmates.
He most probably will not be able to do any of these jobs for the next few months, and is going to need a new bike, helmet and some better flashers (IMHO). He will also need some rides to the doctor, grocery shopping, and meals dropped off, etc.
