Who are we??
The aims are:-
To provide support to young black males from age 12 upwards to express their emotions and mental health in a positive way and feel confident to do so.
To provide education and information about mental illness
To support the local community to support the next generation of young black males by providing positive interventions, through sport, music, work experience, supported education activities.
To promote community cohesion. “It takes a village to raise a child”
To celebrate, acknowledge and learn about our cultural backgrounds and history, (that which is not taught at school). In conventional and non-conventional ways. History work-shops for young people eg Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King.
The funds raised will be used to:-
To provide workshops on emotional intelligence, self esteem and assertiveness.
To provide activities for our young people to learn about our cultural history.
To fund rental of community venues to provide space and time to talk with confidence in a non-judgemental environment which is neutral and accessible.
To create promotional materials and merchandise for Genuration Next to advertise the project.
Genuration Next is a voluntary self-funding project at the moment – with the aim of becoming a Social Enterprise.
What else is needed?
Male role-models / mentors / counsellors – to be able to relate to experiences of young black males / demonstrate how to overcome adversity / overcome negative stereotypes.
Space – for community activities/ 1-1 work ( Street -Outreach ) educational presentations, social functions / fund raising activities
Connections - with Police / Employers / Head Teachers / welfare officers
Fundraising activities – in the local communities where the services are being provided – London and eventually surrounding areas.
Sponsorship from businesses by way of finances and opportunities to sponsor young men by offering work experience, mentoring and potential long term placements in exchange for advertising on the web-site, advertising materials and presentations in the community, depending on the package offered.
