Acupuncture Trauma Relief in the RGV

On any given day, detention centers in the Rio Grande Valley release between 300 to 400 people a day, say grassroots groups working to support migrants and asylum seekers at the border. Upon release, many families are left with nowhere to go while they wait for their asylum cases to be adjudicated. Before they can even set foot in the United States and wage an asylum claim, they are forced to wait–sometimes weeks, sometimes months; during that time, many are forced to sleep on the international bridges that connects Brownsville, TX to Matamoros, Mexico.

Community first responder volunteer groups like Angry Tías & Abuelas of the RGV and Team Brownsville have been assisting asylum seekers with food, water, clothes, transportation assistance, shelter, medicine, and toiletries. They have been working around the clock nonstop since June 2018, and some volunteers have been experiencing secondary trauma, which is the emotional duress that results when an individual hears about the firsthand trauma experiences of another.

We are a team of volunteers with Acupuncturists Without Borders,  who went to the RGV on Jan. 4-6, 2019 to offer (4) FREE acupuncture relief clinics for migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and community first responder volunteers. We offered NADA acudetox  treatments, a simple protocol of 5 points in each ear which can help alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia and PTS.

Acupuncture can help people recover from trauma by regulating the body and emotions, creating greater peace and stability for themselves, their families and communities.

This first clinic was made possible entirely by volunteer efforts and donations from folks like YOU! Any donations will help make an impact and help us with future trauma-relief clinics in the RGV. Thank you in advance for your generosity and for opening your heart!
