Action for the Homeless

Donation protected

My name is Juliet and I am the CEO of  WAG  and we are appealing for your support. Homeless people who sleep rough don't live as long as those who don't. The average lifespan of a homeless person is just 46 years! The abuse and intolerance and discrimination they face has become worse. We want to get them off the streets and on to their feet.

Working Action Group (WAG) are a community organisation a non profit making Charitable Company a Social Enterprise (CLBG) created and run primarily by volunteers.  Our projects are Action for the Homeless & Action for Equality & Diversity. Whilst working with the homeless we realised that many of our clients were not able to access many of the brilliant facilities available to them by other organisations. Mainly because they were worried about loosing their space,  or their belongings or just because of their fear of attack and sometimes they just did not know anything about them !

So we  decided to find a solution by asking homeless people what they most needed and we found one! We realised that we must go to them! So we designed a fully functional Multipurpose Homeless Mobile Unit. To ensure that  we can travel from location to location to go to the areas with the  most need. We have incorporated a kitchen and showeroom with toilet, sleeping pods & office facilities and storage. That can facilitate health checks, access to employers, housing assistance and the vital human contact and coaching and support needed. First Eco Partners have agreed to support us with energy solutions to provide electricity all year round.

Our homeless clients have agreed to co-design the conversion. But we need your help to  convert the bus which has been donated by Black Pool Transport. We require,  bedding, towels clean clothing and food and all the running costs and maintenance and we are seeking grant funding to pay for lodging costs and staff salaries. We will ensure that your kindness your contributions are mentioned on our website and in our publicity materials and within the bus.  (Please watch our promotional video)

It doesn't stop there we want to reduce the discrimination and abuse that homeless people face and therefore we are currently offering, workshops & training programmes via our Action for Equality & Diversity project on Equality & Diversity using Unconscious & Conscious Bias as a tool for change with the NCBI.  Our findings were assisted by the essential  research undertaken  by Middlesex University Students led by Diversity Expert Dr Doirean Wilson. We would like to see Homelessness as the 10th Protected Characteristic within the Equality Act 2010.

We will  provide respite for 1456 homeless people every year.  They  can have a shower a hot meal a warm bed, clean clothing, warmth and friendship access to healthcare professionals and support workers, employers too. But most importantly they will be safe for at least one night off the streets to get a good nights sleep. The social benefits are far reaching with this project.

We will  provide 5000 healthy meals every year.

We will provide a homelessness prevention service by providing access to the internet and office facilities.  Also entertainment and the means by which to reconnect with their families. Assistance with increasing self-esteem /confidence and befriending service.

We will work with employers and multi-agencies to offer support.  Signposting to facilitiate ongoing assistance.

The funds will be used for the following:

We have now been donated a Double Decker Bus by Blackpool transport!
£23,000 to assist with the £75K needed to convert the vehicle.
£2,000 to provide clean clothing bedding & towels & hygiene kits.
£4,000 to provide healthy meals
£3,000 to maintain the vehicle
£3,000 to pay volunteer expenses

We are applying for support from other funders to pay salaries and fuel and eco solutions and lodging costs, fees and wheel hire.  We will offer a very comprehensive thank you package to all donors who donate over £1,000. We will with your permission publish the names of everyone that donated to support the cause in our marketing materials.

We are planning a  Celebrity Fundraising Tour and we have approached Levi Roots, Usain Bolt, Idris Elba and World Champion Floyd Mayweather's International Management Team, to mention  a few. We have advertised widely in the Press and we have even been on the News! If you know a company  or maybe you work for one that would like to Sponsor the Tour and support Action for the Homeless we have great activation and promotion and PR opportunities. Please come on board!
