Action For Ashbrook Centre

My Story

Hello everyone my name is Denise Ross, I lived in Borrowash for 8 years my Mum lives in Ockbrook she is the one who told me about the Centre so I contacted cllr Wallis to offer my help in raising funds for the centre.

When I moved to Borrowash in 1993 I didn't know a soul. In fact, it wasn't until my son was born that I got to know the community of Borrowash. We would go regularly to the baby clinic at the community centre.  I t was a place, not just where I could check the health of my baby, but where I could make friends, share worries and have a laugh.  It was clear that the centre had a lot to offer; playgroups, Scouts, sports clubs, to name but a few.  But, that was 24  years ago and now the community centre is in dire need of help.

The ‘Action for Ashbrook’ fundraising team needs your help to put The Ashbrook Community Centre back on it’s feet! Many years of poor funding has seen the centre fall into a state of disrepair, to the point where it is no longer fit for use.  We want to restore it, so it can become a place of activity and entertainment, of care and giving.  A place to meet, learn, share.  A place to voice opinion and listen to concerns, to provide a welcome for all, no matter how young or old.  But before we can do any of that we need to fix the roof, windows, doors.  Create a new kitchen, toilets, changing facilities.

We’ve made a start, by convincing the council to lease the buildings and land to us and have registered The Ashbrook Centre as a charity. The trustees of the charity, are a group of Ockbrook and Borrowash parish councillors who are completely committed to making the centre a usable hub of the community. But we need you to help us shape the way in which the centre can enhance the community because your needs, drive our ideas.

What Can You Do to help?

Right now the biggest thing you can do for us is make a donation.  Any amount, large or small would be great! There are over 7,000 people living in the community.  If every one of you could donate just a few pound, together we can make the dream a reality. We are also interested to hear from anyone in the construction trade who might be able to donate their time, expertise or materials.  you can even set up your own fundraising event.  Do a run! Have a bake sale! Knit!  Watch out for updates.  There will be fundraising events that you can support and contribute to.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Ockbrook and Borrowash to come together and do what communities do best!
