Access North West Community Radio

Donation protected
Access North West is a non-profit Community Interest Company which was set up to provide local and wider community online radio broadcasts.  The aim of the station, as the name suggests,  is to make radio accessible not just for the listener but from anyone wanting to get involved or gain experience in broadcasting.  Although we're a relatively small group at the moment we are growing daily and people are approaching us with ideas and content, which we are happy to take on board.

This funding page has been set up because we've been asked how people can donate to us and we felt this was the best way for those people to see that the donations are reaching their target and how those funds can help.

Funding can help in so many ways.  Firstly, to keep community radio 'on air' we need to pay two licence fees and a streaming service.  These are essential, without them we simply can't broadcast.   Our studio is already set up, as you can see from the pictures above, but we do need to pay rent.  We don't pay for a swanky office overlooking the Mersey, we rent a small room from a local charity that we've converted from a store room with a lot of elbow grease and determination.  For the most part the station is run by volunteers, but there are some costs involved in administration and accounts.

So, they are necessary day to day running costs of the station, but for us the value of having a community hub brings so many benefits.   The phrase 'community radio' for most people brings to mind a very localised setup, highlighting a particularly small geographic area.  It's really the only time that the word community is used in such a limited context, when referring to radio.  Communities in a digital age are much wider spread and we aim to embrace this, hence the tag of 'local and wider community' in our opening line.  Our programming allows for both to be represented.

We're working with everyone, from any walk of life, to give them whatever they want from our station.  We have both seasoned presenters giving up their time voluntarily and folk who have never done it before.  We've linked up with a local training centre to offer young people a chance to get involved either behind or in front of the microphone.  So many people have approached us with ideas and concepts that we've helped them bring to life.  There’s also weekly slots to highlight the work of charities and community groups.  So this is the true benefit of the station - this is the answer to the question you probably asked in the previous paragraph - 'why should I help pay their licence?'

The overall aim of the station is to develop and grow, and in that growth we enhance and  encourage community growth.  We are a Community Interest Company which means we must meet obligations to the community.  We're also eligible to apply for funding to help us along the way, again this funding requires certain objectives to be met and our objectives are all community driven.  You'll see these online as we achieve.  It would be wonderful to be self sufficient but wouldn't that just turn us into a commercial station, and don't we already have enough of those?  We're not asking for huge donations, in fact if you recall it was everyday people who asked us to take donations!  Whether you donate or not, we'll strive to bring you a real radio station with real people on board.

Access North West launches on 1st September 2018
