The Mission
Accelerating Men’s mission is to train young men ages 10-18 to live a lifestyle that reflects the will of God through mentoring, community service, monthly workshops, conference calls, and interventions.
The Reason
Many young men from economically disadvantaged communities do not have the educational opportunities and support systems they need to help them achieve their potential. They often lack Godly and professional male role models and stable home life, fail to complete high school, and face high rates of poverty and incarceration. We know that competing in today's economy requires more than a high school degree, and real economic opportunity requires much more.
Accelerating Men provides interactive, innovative workshops that address these areas head on with ongoing dialogue, self-evaluation, self-assessments, parent dialogue, roleplaying, and real life experiences. We give young men skills and techniques for how to properly respond to challenges when difficult situations arise.
Without these skills and without learning how to process and manage their emotions, our young men often become overwhelmed by social challenges, resentful, disengaged from the right relationships, and conform to negative environments, compromising themselves because they are not grounded in their own true identity. Accelerating Men takes a holistic approach in leading young men to discover their identity and remain true to themselves while honoring God in their everyday decisions.
The Elements
Monthly ETC Workshops for young men, designed to help them identify with who they truly are in God, by introducing them to different types of community life topics that will enrich and influence them during small group discussions.
-Monthly conference calls called the Sound Board. The Sound Board is a place where professional male leaders around the globe can share their knowledge and wisdom with young men of all ages (10+). The professional male leaders speak from their hearts and professional/personal experiences.
-Monthly parent meetings through its Bridge Parent Advocate Program. This program provides a direct contact and liaison for Accelerating Men parents and includes them in the mentoring program process.
-The Leading Man Mentoring Program is designed to connect Godly professional leaders with participants who share the same gifts or interests. The Leading Man Mentor will focus on assisting the young men in developing strong qualities within their shared interests.
-Boxing with My Mind is an intervention designed to help strengthen the physical and mental capacity of each young man and bring young men together to discuss the ongoing struggles within their minds, bodies, and spirits.
-The Golden Man Community Service Project is designed to help Elderly Men, Retired Veterans, and others in need within the Wake County Community.
The Need
At the conclusion of the 2015-2016 program year, Accelerating Men graduated six participants. 100% of the young men advanced to their next grade level and showed tremendous growth in their individual development. They displayed better decision-making and communication skills, and several participants experienced mended and strengthened relationships with their fathers and mothers.
For the 2016-2017 program year, we really need your financial support to assist us with the following needs:
