Abolish the Doctrine of Discovery

The Indigenous Youth Ceremonial Mentoring Society is a program of Guadalupe Alternative Programs, an inner city alternative school and job training program located in St. Paul, Minnesota. The mentoring program is designed specifically to teach ceremonies to a select group of Indigenous/Indian youth in the St. Paul school district.
In learning about ceremonies the youth are reclaiming what has been lost due to colonization, the result of the Doctrine of Discovery and Papal Bulls, which are decrees or directives issued by the Vatican and various Popes in past centuries that this and other Governments refer to, too legally take Native lands, deny land claims, take resources and prevent access to sacred sites by Indian people.
We are currently raising funds for air fare, ground transportation, lodging and meals to travel to Rome, Italy to meet with Pope Francis to request the abolishment of those Papal Bulls pertinent to the Doctrine of Discovery. We are seeking funding from individuals, groups religious organizations, and tribal entities, who will sponsor individual airfares and or contribute to the general fund to assit in financing this effort for at least 12 people. Efforts are now underway through Amsterdam based attorney David McKinnon to gain an audience with Pope Francis and the "Holy See." We are seeking the complete and absolute abolishment and public declaration that Papal Bulls will no longer be used as justification to continue to steal from and oppress Native people.
