College Tuition

$7,478 of $26,000 goal

Hello everyone. My name is Abbas Kazan. I am a senior civil engineering student at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. I am scheduled to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in May 2019 with a 4.0 gpa and extensive experience in the field of civil engineering research.

I am an international student from Lebanon. I have been studying in the U.S. since 2014 with a full scholarship from a Lebanese foundation, SNG, who recently informed me of their inability to support me due to their deteriorating financial situation in Lebanon and their loss of business. As a result, my fall 2018 semester balance was not paid, I was left financially unstable and unable to afford living expenses nor college expenses for my last semester (spring 2019). All I have as family are my parents, who live in Lebanon and whose total monthly income doesn't exceed $700 that barely covers bills. Therefore, they are unable to help.

As of that, I am left with no financial resources to pay for fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters of college, nor any resources to afford living expenses until I graduate and get a job to ensure a stable life. In this fundraiser, all I'm asking for is help from those who can to cover my college expenses and help me through this unfortunate situation to accomplish my goals.

I have been on the President's List for 4 consecutive years. I am currently the top student in the Civil Engineering program at SUNY Poly. Throughout my undergraduate study, I was able to become a CRLA International Certified Tutor, received several awards (i.e., Joseph H. Smith Jr.'45 Award from RPI). During my time at SUNY Poly, I conducted several civil engineering research projects, worked as a student orientation leader, and a tutor in engineering, mathematics, and physics courses. I interned at Barton & Loguidice, where I expanded my knowledge in the civil engineering field and worked alongside experienced and talented engineers.

I gained leadership and communication skills through engineering projects and volunteer work I have performed. If I get the chance, with your help, to pursue my bachelor's degree in May 2019, I plan to work as a engineer to help improve and build our communities' infrastructure. On a personal level I plan to pursue higher education in civil engineering whilst becoming a professional engineer.

Without your help, my dreams of pursuing my education and becoming a civil engineer could die. Without your donations, I will be, soon enough, with no home, no education, and no hope for a better future.

I hesitated many times to create this fundraiser because I was embarrassed of my situation. I was afraid to be judged or looked down at because I have no money to pursue my education and live a normal life of a human being without stress and constant migraines. Your help could change my life to the better and shape a generation of educated and ambitious individuals.

Your action is appreciated, and happy holidays !

Sincerely,
Abbas
