Abaka celebrates the diversity of cultures and experience with the goal to bring people together in order to foster learning, understanding and compassion for all people!!! Our mission is to help spread interest and understanding of Filipino language and culture to future generations of Filipino American children as well as children from all cultural backgrounds.
(Crescent Brewer is one of our Filipino-American students. At ABAKA we teach the culture, language and music we grew up with in the Philippines as a part of preserving the Filipino Culture in the USA.)
ABAKA Developmental Preschool and Childcare Foundation is a non-profit organization and is the only foundation that offers a complete Filipino Language Immersion program for children in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Consider that Filipino is the fifth most-spoken language in the USA and Filipino Americans are the second largest population of Asian Americans in the USA. The language is even taught in some public schools in other states. We are asking your help so we can continue to offer this program to children in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Our program is open to children of all ethnic backgrounds. The cultural diversity of our current program can be easily observed in our classroom. Watching this diverse group of children come together to play, sing and recite poetry in Filipino is a beautiful experience.
Our goal is to be able to maintain our classroom in the east valley (Mesa) and establish a new classroom in the west valley for children. An integral part of this program is providing opportunities to the children to share their performances of song, poetry and instrument at various cultural festivals and seasonal events to provide them positive reinforcement as well as life skills in public speaking and positive self image.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
