Abused Cats Need Your Help

$6,585 of $9,250 goal

Dear Friends,

I am working diligently to rescue a colony of cats in Huntington that is being abused by gang members. The gang is burning the cats with cigarettes, maiming them with BB's and killing them (see photo’s). There are 30 cats in total and as of today about 24 have been removed from the site. Most are affectionate, calm, adoptable cats that just need someone to love them. To date, about 9 have found homes but there still are many in dire need of immediate fosters/adoptions. I am not part of a rescue group so I have no access to any funding, I am just a lay person who has been feeding and caring for these cats and now I am franticly trying to save their lives before anymore die a horrible death. In an effort to help find them good homes, I have been testing the cats, getting them vaccinated and having them spayed/neutered. Additionally, I will be treating the cats that have been victims of abuse for their burns and leg wounds. I am also driving some of the cats out of state to get them to good homes and safe harbor. The cost for all of this has been adding up quickly and is becoming overwhelming, as a result, I am respectfully asking that if you can donate any amount to this mission it would be greatly appreciated. 100% of all funds raised are going directly to care for and rehome the animals.

With sincere appreciation for all of your kindness.

Dear Friends,

I want to give everyone an update on the status of the rescue and ask for your help with the overwhelming cost of this mission.

To date, 24 cats have been saved! 22 of them have been adopted into loving homes and 2 are currently in foster care. There are a few feral cats that remain but they have moved to a safe location and are now out of harm’s way (one just had kittens). The plan is to place the unadoptable feral cats in a sanctuary and bring the kittens to Tail’s High rescue when they are old enough to be removed from their mother. The placement cost for all of these animals will be approximately $2,500.

One of the cats currently in foster care has been diagnosed with stomatitis; which is a very painful disease that requires all (or most) of the cats teeth to be extracted. Bebe was taken in for surgery on July 15th. Unfortunately, the vet needed to stop the procedure because, even under anesthesia, the cat felt severe pain. I was informed that, due to the severity of her condition, the surgery would need to be done by a dental specialist. Yesterday I took Bebe to see Dr. Carmichael of the Veterinary Medical Center in West Islip. He examined her and the was taken in for surgery the same day. She is doing well this morning, and is recovering at the hospital. I hope to have her "home" later this afternoon. The estimate was $2,967-$3,259; I will know the final bill once I scoop her up later.

To date, the cost of this rescue has been almost $10,000. It certainly would not have been possible without all of your generous donations and again I am extremely grateful to all of you. I am not a person who ever asks for money so this is a very difficult note to write but, with the high cost of Bebe’s dental surgery and the money that will be needed to place the remaining cats in a sanctuary, I am desperately in need of more funds. Therefore, I am respectfully asking that you please give whatever you can and forward this plea around in an effort to help raise more money, 100% of which will be used to help the animals.

With sincere appreciation for your continued support,
Sonya

Ps. Here's a copy of the dental estimate for Bebe. Again, any little bit will help with her care, and I appreciate your help more than you know.

I would also greatly appreciate prayers and positive thoughts for this little angel. She just may be the most precious little one scooped up from the colony. She was so sick and in tremendous pain. I am truly hoping this surgery will give her the life she so deserves. Despite a diseased and painful mouth, all this little one wanted was love. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. And please share this continued plea for support, for her and her colony friends, with those you know and love.

Sincerely,
Sonya

One more photo to share- hope it makes you smile...

We took down the storm door to my house yesterday. It was obviously a HUGE event :)

Meet my Mom's rescues from the colony:

Far left: Lucky (aka Runky) (9 months old)-- likes to smack everyone on the head and run away. Is a little devil. ;)

Moving right: Next to Lucky: Sammy (2 years old.) This little guy just CAN'T get enough of head rubs. No matter where you are, there he is, and there's his head.

(Skip a cat) Then second from right- sheer grey: Greyson (aka Big Grey) (2 years old): Sweetest angel ever. Will drop on the floor at any moment for a belly rub. Kindest soul on the planet.

In case you're wondering the two I didn't mention are rescues as well, just not from the colony. (Coltrane and Skye.) And yes, that's a door full of all boys! Leela- the one girl in the house, opted out of the photo. :)

Xoxo- Sonya

Yesterday my wife and I met Sonya, her mother and two of the women that are helping her with the rescue. They are all lovely, kind people who are devoted to the animals and dedicated to this mission. All of the cats at her home were immaculate, well cared for and very friendly. Keep up the great work Sonya. You are an amazing person!
