We have all heard about the devastation of the floods in North Queensland, and while media reports are now less frequent, the damage and the clean up remain.
A.B. Paterson College has a long standing relationship with the Winton community, and right now they are in need of our help. With a reported 500,000 cattle and stock lost and thousands of kilometres of fencing down in the region, our friends in Winton are doing it tough.
Thanks to one of our teachers (Travis Templar), A.B. Paterson College will send a dedicated team of staff and student volunteers to the Winton region to help local farmers and residents clean up their properties, restore fences, and provide essential feed for their livestock. This work will be physically, emotionally and mentally draining due to the devastation and the many stock losses they will see and help remove.
Superior Steel and Clarke's Construction, owned by College parents, have generously provided their strong support by way of material and equipment supply.
In order to prepare our Volunteer team and provide them with all that they require, we are in desperate need of financial support to travel to Winton, 4WD bus hire, fuel expenses, tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, brooms, protection equipment, chain strainers etc, bob cat and truck hire, and of course, hundreds of metres of fencing wire. We are also hoping to leave vouchers and donations with some of the most affected farmers so they can purchase feed for their livestock and much needed diesel.
In order to make this happen, we need your support. The Volunteer team will travel to Winton on 30 March and return 9 April, but we need the funds to immediately source and purchase all of the materials.
This support will make a significant difference to our friends in Winton, and will show them that our College community is there for them in the good times and in the bad. Where would we be if not for those who work the land and provide our food?
Our staff and students are ready to do the 'hard lifting' but they need your support to make this happen. Please help our students get to Winton and provide the service and support a struggling community needs.
A big Thank You to everyone for your support and assistance. The staff, students and parents have now returned after 10 challenging days.
