Aaron's Plea

Donation protected
Aaron is a nine year old male Doberman. He was found starving and dying in a ditch in Tuscaloosa, AL by two very kind and caring women. They got him to a vet and that night he went into seizures simply from the malnourished condition he was in. Two weeks later he was taken in by a Doberman Rescue group in Enterprise, AL. He was heartworm positive, severely malnourished and terrified of the world around him. Obviously he had been neglected and very abused for a long time. Since no foster home was available for him, the rescue group boarded him at their vets clinic. We had been watching Aaron's plight on the rescue Facebook page and decided to take him in July of last year. They allowed us to adopt him and care for his needs. Upon arrival at our home we discovered that Aaron had all the trappings of a dog who had spent his entire life outside and in socialized. He did not know what a dog bed was, but would lay in a corner in the next room. He would not take a treat from your hand; he would not drink from a water owl inside; he would not eat if you were watching. It took time, patience, coaxing and a lot of love to get Aaron out of his shell. Our other Dobermans were very accepting of him, which made things a little easier. But he was terrified of men, and would slink away and hide from my husband. We finished Aaron's heartworm treatment, and as of the first of the year he was clear of heart worms. Aaron has had difficulty in supporting his rear, and our vet showed us large knots on the inside of his knees. These were damaged cruciate ligaments that had been untreated for years and had bern very painful for him. But with better health and diet and lots of love and patience Aaron began to blossom. Until last weekend. We noticed he was unable to put weight on his right rear leg and he was in excruciating pain. A trip to his vet on Monday revealed a totally ruptured right anterior cruciate ligament. He could bear no weight whatsoever on this leg. The only answer is surgery. The cost of which is close to $4000. Our other two rescue Dobermans are both affected with dialated Cardiomyopathy and we are treating both of them. So we are asking for any help available for Aaron. The cost of the surgery up front is quite a lot to take on at one time. Aaron is such a great and sweet dog. In spite of all of the neglect and abuse he has suffered, he has nothing but love to offer. Please help us help Aaron. Any leftover funds will be donated back to Sweet Home Doberman Rescue.
