Let's bring Simon home

Donation protected
We've met the target now. If anyone still donates money for Simon, that's truly wonderful, but it's extra now ... just so you know. We won't close the campaign until he's back in the UK, with all his family and friends.

If you know Simon, you'll know  how important this is. He's stuck in Vietnam, and he needs a ride home. So, we'd like you all to help with that. Please contribute as much as you can, and pass on the message.

Undoubtably, he has helped you out when you needed it and now it's time to settle up.

Please dig deep - he'd love it if you sacrificed a pint or a packet of fags or even a holiday, so that he can rest easy near all of us who love him.

Tragically, Simon was killed in Vietnam last Saturday, in the early hours of the morning. He was riding his moped home from his first solo poetry gig - just his. He was hit by a truck.

His dad, Davy is in Hanoi now, and is making all the arrangements to bring him home. His family are overwhelmed by your generosity and support. Simon's parents especially are blown away and cannot thank you all enough. Thanks to your generosity, they can now do this without the added burden of worrying about the enormous costs. He can come home gracefully and  they can do whatever it takes to make it as uncomplicated as possible.

When he's home, and if there's any money left over, his family have suggested that we use it for a Simon-style celebration of his life and spirit. As soon as we know details, we'll let you know.

Thank you all for your amazing generosity. Everyone is truly bowled over. Simon was loved by so many people, all over the world. Please keep sharing the link ...

Before they release the funds, the GoFundMe personnel have asked that I put some information on here to let you all know  who I am, and why I've set up this GoFundMe campaign, so that's why I'm including the next bit (these are the questions they've asked so you know I'm writing this because they've asked)  ...

Transparency is always the best policy, and we ask that you include the following information in your story:
1. Who you are
2. Where you're from
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
4. How the funds will be used (be specific as possible)
5. If you intend to withdraw the money, how you plan to send the funds to the parties you're raising money for or use the money on their behalf. We noticed that your beneficiary is located in another country, and it is unclear who is withdrawing and delivering the funds to him if he cannot withdraw funds himself.

My name is Colleen, and I live in Cambridge, where I work, as a Criminologist at Anglia Ruskin University. I was born in Romford, Essex (is that what they mean?)

I met Lesley, Simon's mum in 1980, in Cambridge (at the Wimpy), and we've been friends since then. I went to her and Davy's wedding in 1983 in Scotland, so we've all been connected in various ways for over thirty years. And we've watched each other's children grow up, and loved them all. My daughter, BeBe moved to Brighton a couple of years ago, to be near Simon, and they have a very special 'sibling,-like-nothing-else-in-the-world' friendship (just like many of you). The kind of friendship that many people don't get the chance to have (unless you know Simon).

And I love him too.

So, we have been trying to raise money to get Simon home. Some of the money will be used for whatever it costs to bring him home, but obviously there are many hidden costs in that - bureaucratic costs in Vietnam, and travel and accommodation for Davy and Sol. At this point, we don't know how much that is all going to add up to. But we will let you know. If there's money left, we were thinking that it would be best used for the kind of funeral that Simon should have. You know what that is. At this point, though we don't have a clue how the costs will add up.

The money will only be released to me. and I will pass it all on to Davy (Simon's dad), or pay bills directly. He is in control of all the arrangements.

I hope that this gives you all a little peace of mind in this horrible limbo time.

best wishes, and much love, Colleen
