The 2014 A Shot For Life Challenge will take place on August 2nd at the University Sports Complex in Hanover, Massachusetts. For the first time in our history we are introducing a female division as well as a male division. As always, the very talented shooters who make up our program have committed to raising money for cancer research. By being invited to our program, the following shooters are officially recognized as the best 16 shooters in the state of Massachusetts for the 2013-2014 basketball season. To win the A Shot For Life Challenge officially names the winner "The Best Shooter in Massachusetts". In doing so, the winner earns a spot in the A Shot For Life Hall of Fame and gets their number retired for all future ASFL events.
All of our shooters have terrific statistics on the basketball court. However, the most important statistic we have is 66%. That is the mortality rate of people diagnosed with brain cancer. What this means is that when someone is diagnosed with brain cancer, more than 3 out of 5 of them will pass away within 5 years of diagnosis.
A donation of any amount will go directly towards lowering that number closer to zero.
Where specifically the money is donated to: The Dr. Curry research laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital is on the cutting edge of cancer research. Dr. Curry is regarded as one of the best brain surgeons in the United States and had my mother’s brain tumor grown, he would have been the doctor to perform the surgery. Dr. Curry is trying to build a cell that will aggressively attack cancer cells. Children’s Hospital in Boston is the other recipient of our donated money. The money that goes to Children’s is used specifically for cancer research or to aid in the care of young cancer patients.
