Dear Friends and Family,
I am reaching out to all of you to share the unfortunate news that our closest friend Courtney Dickson Whalen, has been diagnosed with throat cancer. I am at a loss for words to try and understand how a super fit, healthy, amazing mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend could now become the victim of this awful disease.
It has been a tough few weeks of testing, scans, scopes, countless doctor appointments and surgery for a feeding tube. The good news is that she is in good hands at UCSF and in the care of a great oncology team. Unfortunately, the progression of the mass has intensified and we are praying that her treatment of intense radiation and chemo therapy will start without delay in the coming week. Treatment will be 5 days a week for 7 weeks. Luckily, UCSF has reasonably priced housing in SF where she can stay to avoid the back and forth driving.
Courtney is a stubborn strong willed woman that continues to fight through nausea, fatigue and extreme pain. But she cannot do this alone. It truly will take a village to support Courtney, Will and two boys, Price 12 months and Tyler 12 years. How can you help, you ask? Financial support! For child care and UCSF housing not to mention the overwhelming amount of medical and prescription expenses.
