A few weeks ago, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

Thirteen years ago, my mom was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 3 breast cancer. She had surgery, radiation, and several rounds of very aggressive chemotherapy. During her treatments, she was very ill, had many hospital stays, and spent weeks in bed, but she continued on for the fight of her life. After a year of ups and downs, downs that can’t even be described, she beat cancer. Although the effects of the treatments took a huge toll on my mom, my older sister and I felt like we were able to breathe again. We turned our backs on the worst time in our lives and hoped to NEVER look back.

In June of this year, my mom, my 3 girls and I were on vacation when my mom started feeling a lot of stomach discomfort. She had also lost 15lbs out of nowhere and we were getting very concerned about her health.  A couple of days later, my picture-perfect world was shook again. She went to the doctor and a CT scan was ordered which showed “suspicious cells” in her abdomen. For 2 full months, we have been on a roller coaster ride to determine what these “suspicious cells” could be. Finally a surgical biopsy confirmed our biggest fear. The cancer is back. We are now forced to look back at that horrible time in our lives, but now instead of just shaking our world, it has completely turned it upside down.

My mom has been diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic, inoperable cancer, and there is no cure. The doctors have told us that it is now just about the quality of life that she has left. It can be anywhere from 6 months to 5 years, depending on which treatments work in keeping this horrible disease from continuing to spread, and which treatments don’t cause her to get too ill. This is not acceptable to us. She is our mom and our Mema. We need her every day. I have 3 little girls who think their Mema is their best friend. My sister is due with her first baby in just a few months. My mom needs to be a part of their lives. We want my mom to see all of her granddaughters grow up, graduate, and dance at their weddings.

My mom has a stack of medical bills that are just from determining her diagnosis. In addition to seeing her oncologist, she is also undergoing many natural and holistic treatments that are expensive and not covered by insurance. Many diagnostic assessments used to determine potential treatments are also not covered by insurance.

We CANNOT do this alone.

Please help donate, even a small amount, to my mom’s treatments. Every little bit helps towards the fight for her life.
